Re: Men's Wedding Stuff
Yeah the ring felt weird for a long time. I still kinda hate wearing it sometimes but I put it on of course. Some days I don't even notice it. It's just you never wear anything on that finger so it's an odd feeling.

Re: Men's Wedding Stuff
electricladyland,
Platinum is anything but low budget, at least not now. Platinum doesn't come in an alloy that's less than 90% platinum, and platinum is the only jewelery metal more expensive than gold right now. A plain platinum band of average width is going to run upwards of $2k. And yeah, the only metal less durable than platinum is gold.
All,
I got the tux settled today, actually. I appreciate your input. The groomsmen will be sporting a double lapel jacket, black vest, ivory pleated shirt with a turned-down (like a regular dress shirt) collar, flat front tux slacks, a long paisley-ish red and black tie (knot TBA), and a black and red kerchief. I'm rocking the same getup they are, except that I'll have an ivory vest instead of black, and I'll have an ivory kerchief in addition to the black and red. It's a local shop, so I have no pics of models sporting the getup.

Somehow forgot to mention that this is a ceramic ring. I've banged it around quite a bit so far and haven't had any issues with chipping or anything like that.

I realize I'm old and out of touch with current fashion trends, but my first thought was "Long ties with a tux? WTF?" So I did a search and I have to tell you, that looks retarded. But like I said, I'm old. Carry on.
Oh, and what's wrong with yellow gold?

Re: Men's Wedding Stuff
Please, no oversized tuxes and don't use the old wide tie. Use a long thin fashion one.

My platinum band is 4mm wide(just under a 1/4 inch) and it was a lower grade plat, it was just under $500, my wifes band is 2mm and it was $500. Our ring widths are probably a lot small than others, my cousin's is like 3x as wide.

Because yellow gold is about 25 years out of date, almost nobody wheres yellow gold jewelry unless they are 50+ years old or in the Mob.

Re: Men's Wedding Stuff
For rings, if you are truly a nerd, I would go with a platinum reproduction of the One Ring, or at least that's what I have always wanted.
TBH, I don't know if I could wear a wedding band. I have never worn any rings/jewelry/watches, but I know that it has significance in signaling to others that you are off the market, so I guess I'll just have to sack up when that time comes.
This is what I got as a groomsman('s?) gift in the wedding I was in a few months ago. I was happy with it.

beer not included in gift, so maybe you could one up them if you went this direction

I had the same thought.. it definitely takes some getting used to. It's been about a month now and I'm to the point where most of the time I don't realize I have it on. The rest of the time I'm probably playing with it, flipping it around my fingers etc.

Re: Men's Wedding Stuff
The personalized beer glass is why I think he should go in another direction. Because everybody gives those out and it's basically putting the least amount of thought into the gift whatsoever. Though I know Wookie is an alcohol connoisseur (sp?) so he might go that direction and take it up a notch. My brother got a little home brewery kit from a wedding and he just threw it in his garage and said "what the hell am I gonna do with this?". lol. I was like "man I'll take that!"
Wearing the ring is pretty cool. People treat you with more respect and women seem more receptive around you probably b/c they "know" you aren't going to pick them up or they just get turned on by married men. It was weird I didn't expect to notice anything different but you will.

Re: Men's Wedding Stuff
Favourite ring of all time.
About $450 for the pair. There is a version with some more embellishment on the outside if that one is too plain.
Edit: Titanium tension rings here. $150 to $350 or so.

Re: Men's Wedding Stuff
That's actually a pretty cool idea. Wouldn't really want sterling silver, but palladium could be really nice.

Re: Men's Wedding Stuff
I didn't notice until you mentioned it but "We work in all karat and color golds as well as palladium and platinum regularly. Please convo for details."
Might be worth sending an email.

Re: Men's Wedding Stuff
Yeah, I looked at the metal right away. It's spendy to use a more precious metal, but silver is a poor option for a ring I'd be wearing every day that's supposed to be permanent.

The price difference per oz is a bit of a heart-stopper, but pro-rated to a ring quantity it's probably not too bad.
