Winter driving advice for any car: take it slow, leave plenty of distance, and pray. I handle the driving much better than I handle the winter.

Winter driving tip - put something heavy in the trunk.
Or does than only work for rear drive cars?

Worst was leaving my car in downtown Providence during a 95 shutdown and finally getting it out a week later.

what i put up with. oh, on this forum you cant end a sentence with a proposition.

so this R*R guy bosses me around and makes me make a thread and then his buddy j.c but not the real j.c., but an impersonator j.c. changes my post title to see fit.

however put weight over the wheels that give you traction(the drive wheels) otherwise you lose traction as it takes weight off where you dont want it. especially with you know what coming up soon you will get more weight where you dont want it.

Everything I own with a motor and wheels is 4 wheel or all wheel drive. Only exception is the lawn mower and motorcycle. Neither of those see snowy roads. I do not generally worry about me getting anywhere in the winter, it is all the other lunatics on the road ESPECIALLY semi trucks and 75 percent of the vehicles on the reservation.

The next thing I’m going to do is carve one of the longer gourds into a perfect replica of the Mayflower as a shout-out to our Pilgrim forefathers. Then I’m going to do lines of blow off its hull with a hooker. Why? Because it’s not summer, it’s not winter, and it’s not spring. Grab a calendar and pull your ****ing heads out of your asses; it’s fall, ****ers.

Anyone know anything about rental car insurance when you do not have your own car with insurance?

1) In most states (but not all), the rental car company has to have some min amount of insurance, so you are quite possibly covered to some extent.

2) Many credit cards will cover collision up to a decent amount.

So my main question would be:

3) Liability. Let's say $10K or something small is covered. Should I purchase the rental company's liability for like $17 or $25 a day or whatever? Not really clear on what conditions I'm liable for things. Like if I kill people in an honest mistake am I possibly on the hook for millions? Do you have to be drunk/grossly negligent to start having to pay for anything terribly more significant than the other person's car?

Edit:

From NYS AG website:

Quote:
For a fee of approximately $10.95 per day, the car rental company will supplement the liability insurance that the company must, by New York law, provide. That required coverage consists of the same minimum levels of liability insurance which all vehicle owners in New York must have: $25,000 of bodily injury liability protection if one person is injured in an accident, $50,000 if there is more than one person injured; $50,000 if there is one death from an accident, $100,000 if there is more than one death; plus $10,000 of property damage liability protection. For many renters who have modest amounts of assets, the minimum coverage the car rental companies must provide as a part of the rental may be enough to protect them from lawsuits by victims of accidents involving the rental car. If you have your own automobile insurance policy with coverage above the minimum amounts, your policy should cover you when you operate a rental vehicle, so SLP is likely not needed. However, SLP usually provides $1 million of liability protection, considerably more coverage than most consumers have under their own automobile insurance policies. So if there is a reason that you want more coverage for the rental than you ordinarily carry for your own car, or you do not have an automobile insurance policy, buying the SLP may make sense.
I'm unclear about why the amount of assets I own is relevant. If I have $100K assets, get $100K of insurance, and somebody sues me for a million...don't I still lose everything? If for some reason it does, do assets in retirement accounts count?

your insurance may cover you for liability in the rental car, but not for damage to the car.
the rental companies hose you good if you get in an accident at your fault. they even try to collect loss of revenue for when its in the shop.
best to have a c.c. that gives you rental collision damage insurance.

if you dont have any insurance, anything you do in this world you can be sued for and lose all you got if at fault.

Winter is often defined by meteorologists to be the three calendar months with the lowest average temperatures. This corresponds to the months of December, January and February in the Northern Hemisphere, and June, July and August in the Southern Hemisphere.
Winter - Wikipedia
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winter

and for those block heads that need more=======

In the Northern Hemisphere, some authorities define the period of winter based on astronomical fixed points (i.e. based solely on the position of the Earth in its orbit around the sun), regardless of weather conditions. In one version of this definition, winter begins at the winter solstice and ends at the vernal equinox.[12] These dates are somewhat later than those used to define the beginning and end of the meteorological winter – usually considered to span the entirety of December, January, and February in the Northern Hemisphere and June, July, and August in the Southern.[13]

Astronomically, the winter solstice, being the day of the year which has fewest hours of daylight, ought to be the middle of the season,[14][15] but seasonal lag means that the coldest period normally follows the solstice by a few weeks. In some cultures, the season is regarded as beginning at the solstice and ending on the following equinox[16][17] – in the Northern Hemisphere, depending on the year, this corresponds to the period between 21 or 22 December and 19, 20 or 21 March. In the UK, meteorologists consider winter to be the three coldest months of December, January and February.[18]

In Scandinavia, winter in one tradition begins on 14 October and ends on the last day of February.[19] In Russia, currently calendar winter starts on 1 December and lasts through to the end of February, though traditionally it was reckoned from the Christmas (25 December in Julian calendar, or 7 January in Gregorian) until the Annunciation (25 March in Julian).[20] In many countries in the Southern Hemisphere, including Australia,[21][22] New Zealand and South Africa, winter begins on 1 June and ends on 31 August. In Celtic nations such as Ireland (using the Irish calendar) and in Scandinavia, the winter solstice is traditionally considered as midwinter, with the winter season beginning 1 November, on All Hallows, or Samhain. Winter ends and spring begins on Imbolc, or Candlemas, which is 1 or 2 February. This system of seasons is based on the length of days exclusively. (The three-month period of the shortest days and weakest solar radiation occurs during November, December and January in the Northern Hemisphere and May, June and July in the Southern Hemisphere.)

Also, many mainland European countries tend to recognize Martinmas or St. Martin's Day (11 November), as the first calendar day of winter.[citation needed] The day falls at midpoint between the old Julian equinox and solstice dates. Also, Valentine's Day (14 February) is recognized by some countries as heralding the first rites of spring, such as flowers blooming.

I know it's still above zero (9) but that was the worst time I have ever gone to fill the coal buckets. I have ice fished and been hunting when it was 25 below but my hands never got that cold. It's supposed to start snowing tomorrow night and get down to 25 below Friday night so I wanted to get them all filled tonight while it was still warm. Monday night and a week in Las Vegas cannot get here soon enough. Oh ya, Dom, I will be in town next week BTW. 😁 A Griswold Vegas Vacation complete with a 21st birthday mixed in. Yes, I am bringing bail money.

Wind chills of 20-30 below predicted for Friday. I have to go to a retirement party, speak, and wear a suit, perhaps. Long underwear and black turtleneck will be de riguer. No dress shirt or tie. I hate winter.

Ray,

I get away with jeans, T-shirt, and sports jacket most of the time. But a few times a year, I need to wear a tie. Mostly everyone, though, has gotten used to my style by now. Some in my job wear a tie every day.

Ties were brought to the world by the devil, lol. Just hate them. Could count on one hand the number of times I have worn one in the last 17 years. Jeans and a polo shirt are my dress code at work.
