Sometimes Katy it is useful to start at the wrong end, so to speak, just to get your bearings:

Dom - I do not have a Swedish furniture store nearby. I do like the link you posted. A little scared when I see "Call for the price". Yikes. How expensive are these things? I'm on a budget you know!

I like this sofa:

Got it. I think we can now move towards the other end. Can you give me some examples of stylish sofas that are affordable? Not talking high-end Swedish furniture here. Also, what kind of coffee table goes well with a sectional? We have a sectional that will probably go in a different room.

What do you think about this Ashely sofa? Is it too old-fashioned/country? it just looks so comfy, like I could take a nap on it.

How do you guys feel about Charles of London sofas?

What is your opinion of this Cosco chair?

Thanks for your input. Sorry it took me so long to post. I've been working a lot of shifts trying to pay for this house.

The house stands empty right now. Not sure what to fill it with and what kind of window treatments. Too many decisions.

Obviously, it all depends on the style house you have...but all of those selections look good to me....the sofas just have to match your style and you need to feel comfortable on them, especially if they are going to be your every-day-watch-TV sofa.

That first club chair looks nice....But that color is a ***** to keep clean.

Love the second chair!

Have you looked on Overstock.com? that's where I got a lot of my stuff...I spent money on the sofa and my bed unit, but found good deals at Overdtock for things like chairs, coffee tables, stools for the kitchen counter, etc.

This is a decent site for mid-range Scandi furniture...

I like this one a lot, but it's fairly expensive.

Yes, me too. Here it is again in a different color...

The chair above is actually from that 2nd site you linked AllModern. It's pretty inexpensive. I think I should get it!

Katy, I do love that chair...and I really like the sofa you linked to.

People often neglect style and fashion compatibility in a potential mate.

I personally do not like the Cosco chair. The latest one you posted is very nice and I agree with Dom, it is worth getting - if it fits the room and the other finishing's in the house.

The sofas are fine. One thing to note; get a very good coffee table the right size to accent your living room and one that is combatable with the other furniture. So get the big furniture first (sofa, chairs, pillows, floor lamps etc) and then hunt for a good coffee table. Most often a wood coffee table works well (they do require more cleaning and care) but sometimes metal or one with a ceramic top, or some combination of material, can really pick up the room.

Just for an example:

Do you critique appliances?

I just had this range installed the other day. I still need to finish the back splash, but so far I love it.

I think it's crazy to buy a chair without test-sitting it, or to buy a couch without test-napping it.

jmo (short for "just my opinion.")

You need to widen your range.

Lengthen?

It needs to be deeper because the cabinet crowns changes the depth from standard sizing. I am either going to build up the wall behind the range to add a focal point or just get some stainless and make an "L" backsplash.

I like it! Is that middle part a stove-top griddle?
Wherein Zeno Tells You Your Furniture is Blasphemous Quote

Yes sir... its a removable griddle that has a standard oblong burner underneath.

That front right burner is a wok/high output burner that is capable of 18,000 BTU's... it will melt aluminum.

It looks good and gas is the best for cooking. The thing I find funny and not really functional is that the range still seems to have that silly little drawer thing on the bottom, like many electric stoves had/ or still have. It is actually annoying to me - you have to be a contortionist to remove pans or whatever is stored in that space. Much better just not having that, blocked off in other words. Pans and other cookware is better stored in a more ergonomic location. I like that I could slip in the word ergonomic in this post - it sounds so sophisticated.

The tall column doors/storage by each side of the stove slot seem a bit unusual. Are they functional or just decorative?

The bottom is a warming drawer... it has three settings for slow heating or for keep food warm.

I really don't think I will ever use it, but hey... its better than pan storage.

Yes, much better than pan storage. You could also put a small cat or dog in there for slow roasting. That way you won't stink up the main oven.

got one of those in my new beach house. warming ovens. they are okay.
built in microwave are hard to deal with if they go under. most end up leaving the space empty and getting a counter one after its gone. looks great though.

watch that griddle top as some forget and leave flammable things on it and sooner or later you know what will happen.

looks are one thing when new. but furniture needs to be functional and comfortable.
that comes first.

I had an old Chambers range that had a griddle top. Loved it. I found an asbestos griddle cover that made it safer to put stuff on it. Got it at Ace hardware, I think.

you wont be finding any asbestos covers for sale or anything anywhere anymore anytime.

\after giving all the higher ups millions they declared bankruptcy w.r. grace for the superfund site. then the lawyers sued the state and won 51 million.

In 6th grade we went on a field trip to an asbestos factory. After the tour all the kids were given a sample product to take home. I think I got a 4" length of asbestos rope. I loved field trips.

It's the loose stuff that's dangerous, not so much the solid stuff. Someone once pointed out that a local high school had asbestos floor tiles. Hysteria ensued.

yea the loose stuff is rel bad. the hard tiles still give off particles by not many and who want to take a chance on mesothelioma cancer. ive gotten to see lots of them up near me by libby and it isnt pretty..

When I was in the Navy and our ship went into the yards for overhaul I was put in charge of the asbestos rip out team. Being in charge was okay though. I didn't have to go anywhere near the asbestos very often. But the sailors that did wore masks but not sure how effective they were. This was in 1980 and it was known to be dangerous but I'm guessing we weren't as well equipped for the task as they would be today.
