Banks also. I used to have a Christmas club as a kid where I'd go every week and deposit 5 bucks from my paper route. I'd give them my passbook and they'd feed the book into a machine that typed out the 5 dollar deposit then show accumulated interest (usually like 20 cents lol).

Bank was usually packed with long lines and a whole bank of window tellers. No atms in those days.

And Atms were free since they saved on labor cost.

But you had to make sure to use an atm of your bank or an affiliated bank, since not all atms worked for all cards.

You still have to with most accounts if you don't want to pay huge fees.

Whenever I go to the post office or bank, I still always have to wait in long slow lines, even when going at what would seem to be off-peak hours.

Reminds me of a comedian who made a joke like this:

One of my friends was a SEAL. He said they taught you how to move so slowly that you looked like you were standing still. Who did this training? The post office?

Where was the first ATM in the world? Wall Street? Beverly Hills? Tokyo? Wrong. Barclays bank in Enfield Town, in 1967. Opened by Reg Varney, who went on to play Stan in On The Buses.

Kids listened to adults and did what they were told.

Adults used to moan on about how they were born in a war zone, and grew up with rationing, and never saw an orange until their 14th birthday, etc.

And when today's kids grow up they will complain that back in their day kids didn't have alternate realities to play in and how much better behaved they were.

Probably not necessarily true But kids had respect or at least fear of adults and elders. Now they have none in many circumstances.

As mentioned earlier, young kids out with no supervision. I used to walk or ride my bike to school(just over 1/2 a mile) when I was 7 or 8 years old or be out until sunset all the time with my friends before I was even a teen.

Yahoo had a thing the other day about Ken Griffey Jr. Upper Deck Rookie card, man I loved babseball cards in the 80's so much.
