Not worst; first.

I don't know if others will find this thread interesting or not, but I thought I'd give it a try based on the popularity of the other thread about people's worst theater-going experience.

The very first movie I remember going to see was The Longest Day in 1962 when I was 6. My parent's dragged me along to the drive-in with them, I guess because there was a playground there as well.

The only thing I really remember from that night, was that I was bored out of my mind because half the movie was in German with English subtitles and I couldn't read yet (or at least not very well).

The first movies I remember going to on my own with a friend in a traditional movie theater were Viva Las Vegas in 1964, and Thunderball in 1965. I saw both of those at the Miracle Theater in Coral Gables, FL. (Which still exists, albeit as a playhouse now.)

Gremlins

I remember we had cut out the little ad for it in the paper with the movie times.

I was one of the many small kids that parents thought were taking to see a cutesy fun kids movie.

I know my parents took us to Disney movies when we were little, probably Cinderella or Bambi, something like that.

First movie was a revival of Pinocchio in Newark, NJ. To this day, I remember being overwhelmed by the size of the screen and the number of people and the smell of the popcorn and the ornate decorations and curtains, etc. my Uncle Mike took me. I was 5.

First drive through was American Graffiti with my family...when was that?? 74?

Same here, I'm thinking Snow White but went to all of the Disney cartoon stuff when I was little. Coulda been some crappy live action stuff like The Shaggy Dog. Went to lots of crappy kids movies like that. First "real" movie I remember was Spartacus which would have been when I was 6 but am sure I went to the Bambis and Pinoccios before that.

The best thing when I was a kid (about 9 or 10) was the Saturday matinee at the local theater. It was usually 2 crappy Hercules movies and 25 cartoons. The theaters was a complete madhouse with a couple hundred 10 year olds just running around screaming and yelling. I have very fond memories of going to those with all of my friends.

Oh man, same here. We were even close enough to walk up to the theater or ride our bikes, me and my dumb brother. Good times, simpler times.

Maybe not the first, but it was the most memorable and the first one I really remember. I was like 8 so my brother was like 6 and our Uncle took us to see New Jack City. Definitely remember the naked chicks bagging up coke at the trap house..

At the Park Theater in Cranston, RI, I saw The Return of the Fly and The Alligator People. My aunt Barbara took me when I was five years old. A few years later, I would see Elvis movies, Hammer and Roger Corman horror films, and, most notably, Lawrence of Arabia.

Wow, that's some uncle, lol. I was 15 in 1971 when I saw my first nudity in a movie theater. My father took me to see The Last Picture Show.

I was 16 or 17 when I went with friends to see The Last Picture Show. We liked going to "grown up" movies.

I (barely) remember my parents taking me to The Greatest Show on Earth.

At about age 7 or 8 parents dumped loads of kids at one of the theaters downtown on Saturday mornings where they usually showed a couple of western movies a couple of times each until 2pm or so. When we got tired of the movies, we'd roam around downtown until we tired of that. Then someone would put a dime in a payphone and call a parent to come pick us up.

At 13 or 14 we began going to drive-ins without supervision if we could talk older friends into taking us along. Age for driver's license was 15. Rarely went to the drive-in in order to see a particular movie--usually just went on dates or with several people to hang out, drink beer, etc.

I'm with the olds above, probably Lady and the Tramp or one of the Disney live movies like The World's Greatest Athlete.

However, I have a friend who says his parents took him at age 9 (I'm pretty sure) to see Taxi Driver, because it was such a great film.

My dad took me to see both Cuckoo's Nest and Taxi Driver, my first R movies. I had to really argue to get Taxi Driver, and I think it kinda stunned him. He liked Cuckoo's Nest though. In my early teens.

Drive through? . I think the first Drive-in was Dr. Zhivago. I did go with my friend's older sisters to see A Hard Day's Night at the drive-in.

Yeah, drive-through. It was hard to see the movie because you had to keep driving through and go around again, over and over. You missed a lot of the movie, though.

My god... what an interesting question. I truly can not remember the first movie I saw in a theater.

I do remember the influential movies I saw in theaters when these movies were in their first release.

The really memorable older movies seen in first release were 2001: A Sapce Oddessey, midway (in sensorround), Enter the Dragon, ghost and mr chicken, marry poppins, the magnificent seven probably so many more that I didnt find interesting at the time.

I also remember many of the XXX movies I have seen in theaters such as the pussycat, mitchell brothers and studio theaters.

My family went to the drive-in regularly but I would be at the playground the whole time. The first ones I actually remember watching were Star Wars and The Spy Who Loved Me.

The first time I went to an actual movie theater was when a friend's mom took us to see a double feature of Foul Play and Grease.

Once we were allowed to ride our bikes to the movies, the first movie I saw without an adult was Metalstorm: The Destruction of Jared-Syn in 3D.
