Airplane. I was 10 years old; and the look on my dad's face when the pair of boobs darted across the screen - much to his surprise - was beyond priceless.

Interesting. For some reason, I was under the impression that you were a much younger person; certainly not someone who would have been old enough to see Mary Poppins in 1964.

Anyone else remember the early 70s comedy Cold Turkey, where a whole town decides to try to stop smoking for a huge cash prize? Who was in that? Dick can Dyke maybe? Bob Newhart???

Dick Van Dike for sure but not sure who else. I do remember that one though but haven't seen it in years.

Wasn't that Norman Lear? I remember that as being horrible, just watchable.

Yep, I remember that. I think I remember it from CBS' old late movie (here if anybody is interested). I remember the title graphics for sure. They used to show (generally bad) movies after the local news on Friday or Saturday nights?

Stuff like this and The Big Bus. Though I also remember seeing Monty Python and the Holy Grail then too.

@kioshk: I wasn't trying to say my friend asked to see Taxi Driver. As I recall the story, they thought it was such great cinema, they took their sons to it (even at age 9).

My dad took me to see R rated movies all the time, wasn't even like a big thing.

I was like 10 when he took me to see Terminator 2.

My parents dragged me to that movie. (Not the Francis X. Bushman one)

But, even worse, my dad bought a soundtrack album to "show off" his new stereo. I'll never get that banging of the drum (?) by the guy in the galley to pace the rowing of that boat out of my head. "Ramming speed!"

My parents took me to this, too. Probably the third movie I saw in a theater.

Not sure if this counts, but when my mother was 7 months pregnant with me, my parents went to see Deep Throat in the theater. She says some guy next to her got so excited during one scene that he threw his bucket of popcorn in the air.

Naturally I can't remember but I think it was Jurassic Park or something like that. The earliest movie that I can think of now that I saw was Breakdown.

earliest movie I can recall seeing in theaters is JAWS when I was 4. my cousins wanted to see it real bad and took me when I was visiting them. my mom was mortified when she found out.

I also very vaguely remember seeing THE SEVEN-UPs at a drive thru with my parents. Guess I would have just turned 3 looking at the release date. I don't really remember the movie other than a couple of images of Roy Scheider up on the screen. I think the only reason I even remember that is because of the name - I drank a lot of 7-Up ice cream floats when I was a child.

I also remember seeing Willy Wonka in the theater...it was some neighbor kid's 7th birthday and we all went with him to see it.

John Houston's Moby Dick, summer of 1956. I was six, my mother thought it was time for me to get some culture; I thought it was a cautionary tale about being prepared when you go fishing (I come from a family of very serious fishermen).

My dad tells a story that the first movie he saw, back in the 50s, he didn't know the seats folded down and sat up on top of the edge the whole movie. He was from a very small rural town and had no idea how theaters worked. It was a Hopalong Cassidy western.
