John, I never said the movie had to be a legitimate, or traditional, musical. Only a realistic one. If Kudzu wants to interpret a film through its music, I'm all for it. I WANT people to be creative in their picks.

One interpretation of realistic is that no one just busts out into song, and all music is organically driven by the plot - like in my pick, "Once."

But it doesn't have to be that way - as you and Kudzu demonstrated.

Hell, your pick is the "anti-realistic musical!" But it works as a pick because every line of dialog in that movie is sung, not spoken - so, as I said before, it is realistic in that movie's universe.

Just a great fun, feel-good movie, and one that really captures the joy music can bring to life. Based on a classic Roddy Doyle novel, it's one of Ireland's greatest ever films. It's the story of the travails of Jimmy Rabbitte to form the "World's Hardest Working Band," The Commitments, and bring soul music to the people of Dublin. It's dialogue is razor sharp, the music is superb, and the acting is great throughout.

Thanks, I wanted Back To The Future but was sniped on that, and think that the musical one is the toughest category in terms of movies that are actually watchable.

A compelling story about a future writer (Jesse), who meets a beautiful French girl (Celine), proceeding to spend a single night with her on the streets of Vienna. This experience ultimately leads to a best selling novel which is addressed in the sequel, Before Sunset.

If you love dialogue, this is the movie for you. The script is the star, with Hawke & Delpy both giving strong performances in what amounts to a 100-minute conversation about love, life, and everything in between.
