yeah, well, an awful lot is being assumed in the interpretation of Katy's words... I think giving advice based on a situation that may not be what you think it is may not be a good idea.
If Katy wants to expand on it, give her time, if she doesn't, bombarding her with advice without knowing properly the situation won't be helpful.

When in the mood I am great at buying. Only "Ok" at regreting what I bought. And often damn poor at making use of my purchases. I can buy books or software and ignore it for months.
We have a sink we bought 3 years ago for the kitchen island I still haven't built. It goes nicely with the door we had to buy to seal off part of the basement from the cats and sawdust. After being undecieded on where we wanted that wall....we have now ignored it for 4 years.

Sorry to hear you're having a hard time with your SO. Long-term relationships can be so difficult. Always tough to decide when to take a reality check and rough through it, or if you need to move on. It's okay if you don't want to get into more details.
