I started in on this over the weekend. Initially I tried Travelers on Netflix but after 2 eps just didn't care and deleted and tried this instead. About half way through so far and enjoying it.

Jack Irish with Guy Pearce, a recent six part series and some older TV-movies. Also Broken Shore based on book by same author

Secret City. Recent political thriller that was OK

Russel Coight's All Aussie Adventures. I loved these, very silly humour

I'm also interseted in more aus TV recommendations, old or new in any genre
+1 to Russell Coight. He's actually coming back this year too!

If you like that kind of silly humour, I'd also suggest you check out Real Stories with Hamish and Andy. Only 8 episodes but very funny imo.

Unfortunately we're in a bit of a dry spell atm. Not really much coming out that looks particularly interesting, so you're probably better off looking for older stuff to watch.

7/8 episodes through A Series of Unfortunate Events, after having had no prior familiarity with anything related to Lemony Snicket. Decent, but far from great, and I'm not sure I'd recommend it. The narratives of the two episode arcs are very repetitive and I find the whole conceit involving adults dumb enough to not see through a costume more tilting than amusing. That being said, the lead actors do a pretty good job and there are at least several funny moments.

House Of Cards http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1856010/?ref_=nv_sr_1
Third attempt to get interested in this show. I kept getting put off by Kevin Spacey, an actor I've never really liked much. But I made myself sit through the first few eps and ended up getting totally engrossed in the story. Binged my way through 4 seasons, one more to go.

Backstrom http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2099034/?ref_=nv_sr_1
Pretty good cop show about a grumpy alcoholic cop in charge of a special crimes unit. Think 'House' with criminals instead of diseases. It's a slow starter but gets better as the characters settle into their various relationships.

Tokyo Trial http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4040530/?ref_=nv_sr_3
Great historical drama that focuses on the trial of Japanese war criminals after WWII and the dissent between the judges charged with carrying out the trial.

I made it through 2 eps of this before turning it off. It's a terrible show, everything falls flat. The humour is weak and predictable, the characters are plain and uninteresting and the storyline is just silly. And who told Olyphant he could do comedy? He needs to stick to drama where he belongs imo.
2/10 at best.

Netflix has an amazing series called Hip Hop Evolution...it's about the history of hip-hop. Duh.

Absolutely fantastic from start to finish. I'm not a huge hip-hop fan, but man, this series may have changed that. I learned stuff I had never know before...it's an incredible cultural, socials, and political history.

I was seriously transfixed from beginning to end. Check it out.

Man, I'm not kidding...I'm stoked. Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Grandmaster Caz and the Cold Crush Brothers, Afrika Bambaataa....holy cow, these guys are amazing. Being a DJ in NY when I was in high school, I remember this stuff on the periphery...on the tail end of Disco...and then Bambaataa and Fab Five Freddy go downtown and hook up with the punk scene and new wavers and ****ing Kraftwerk of all acts...just astounding. Rick Rubin, Russell Simpson, the Beastie Boys....Public Enemy later...

Anyone else see the PBS special Elizabeth at 90: A Family Tribute?

Prince Charles narrates this amazing doc, which is really just a bunch of the royal family watching home movies they hadn't seen before...all of them (except Prince Phillip) make an appearance while they comment on the amazing and charming old footage.

Really interesting.

Barney Miller episodes on youtube...haven't seen them in 40 years...and they're just as funny as I remember:

What a cast:

Jack Soo
Max Gail
Steve Landesberg
Gregory Sierra
James Gregory
Ron Carey
Ron Glass
Abe Vigoda

And the greatest straight man in TV history: Hal Linden.

Catching up on Season 2 of The Knick. Such a great and unique show. The cinematography is fantastic as is the music. Has its own look and feel that is different from any historical show I've ever watched. Clive Owen is doing fantastic work in this. Not sure what kind of ratings it gets but it should be more well-known, one of the best shows on tv.

Bates Motel really grew on me. When the characters of Norman and Norma Bates were first introduced, I was there "WTF, this is ludicrous ", but then Norman become mesmerizing and Norma, very entertaining

A solid show.

Great movies never render parody alone. It always combines with multi-sided look at the characters

1st episode of Legion was awesome sauce. Hope they can keep up that high quality.

I'm still watching Billions, but it's so ludicrous I'm very tempted to quit on it, we'll see.
