Bojack I tried hard to get into, multiple attempts. Wanted to like it, love dark humor. Just not my thing as executed, not at all.

Bojack is definitely not that kind of show. Season 3 just gets super dark, though it's better than Season 1 and 2, IMO. I'm not sure if it's classified as a comedy, but it'd probably be much better classified as a drama. I just like how "deep" It is, where the seasons end on a quiet but powerful resolution.

It is clearly written by people who went through some real **** in their life, and it's quite refreshing that they purposely undersell a lot of things they are talking about. Season 3 is risky because they start to peel away a lot more ugly than they showed in the prior seasons.

I sort of got worn out on IASIP after a bit. There are quite a few hits, but a lot of misses as well, plus hearing the same bird jokes over and over gets a little old. It also kind of got repetitive to the point that I started thinking: "I would have laughed at that joke a week ago." Without the jokes and funny bits, the writing and characters start to feel flat.

I just watched the pilot for bojack and decided to not continue, might have to visit it again.

Agree with dave's take on Always Sunny. I'll still watch every episode but it has become pretty predictable and a bit stale, which considering it's on season 12 isn't so bad.

watched the 1st 3 episodes of get shorty (not sure when rest will be released) on epix.

I really dislike the route they went with the lead.
maybe I'm just so used to chili palmer n the typical male leads in elmore's universe, but the lead actor just doesn't work.

it's not even that he can't really pull off cool at all, but the way they wrote him just doesn't work at all.

whereas fargo perfectly encapsulated the universe created in the film, this show couldn't be less in the same world as the film.

I think if you never saw the film or read the book it would be enjoyable but if you are as big a fan of the source material as I am I think you'll be severely disappointed.

Finished Bojack. It was okay, but I guess it just never clicked with me the way I hoped it would. It wasn't like other shows that take a little bit to find their groove and then get better as the seasons go on...it pretty much stayed at about the same level throughout. That isn't necessarily a bad thing, and there is some really good stuff in there, but I would suggest if it isn't working for you after about 3 or 4 episodes that you may as well just give up. Mr. Peanutbutter was probably the only reason I finished it.

Rewatched John From Cincinnati - I liked it about the same as the first time but realized it could have been better. Milch said he wrote it in like 4 months and it looks like it is rushed. There is some really great stuff in there, and if you are a fan of Milch it isn't a waste of time imo.

I finished the original AD seasons in a day and a half, I think. I kept going back and forth between which one of the flawless characters was my favorite, settled on Tambor's George Sr......such a perfectly clueless/immoral character - kind of reminded me of Royal from the Tannenbaums. Probably the only show where I still laugh at something in every single scene when I catch an ep on TV.

Yeah, I watched the first two. Really like it so far. I've always been a Bateman fan. He's good in everything.

Looks like Orphan Black wound down to the finale. I'm not really sure why I stuck with it, but I guess after binge-watching the first two seasons with a friend...

I then binge-watched season 4 and stepped along with season 5.

My thoughts:

It's definitely a show for the times. It has it all, from bi-sexuality, to gay, crazy sex, and even a lot of SJW-type stuff in the final season. One of the main characters is wearing a "the future is female" shirt in one episode... pandering to the fans?

What bothers me, and I suppose it comes from the writers not knowing when the show would end, is that there was, at times, way too much, then too little. Most of seasons 1, 2, and 4 were absolutely brilliant, but with the caveat that many themes and setting were borrowed from prior ideas. Season 3 could have well lost many fans and viewers, as it was just too damn convoluted and unfocused.

Season 4 was what season 3 should have been. It was incredibly well-written, going back in forth in time, but not really indicating exactly how and when those time-lapses happened. This season was really where the writers shined in their ability to write with depth and nuance.

The final season felt exactly like that: a final season, somewhat rushed at the end, and while it was an okay ending, it just didn't feel right.

Overall, it's very difficult for me to judge this show, in part because of the human association. It's also difficult because of the wildly inconsistent writing level of each season. I suppose that it would be around a 7/10, but damn, some of it is so 10/10.

I think it is definitely worth watching. Probably not the best thing ever penned. The acting is very good, and the cinematography captures the mood of most sets perfectly. I think that, if the writers knew that it was going to last X seasons, the overall plot movement would have been smoother.

I've been watching this true-crime show on Netflix called Forensic Files. Thankfully, each episode is only about 22 minutes. They tackle some pretty complicated and somewhat famous cases.

It would almost be cliche to say that one fiber cracked open the case, and that's somewhat true, but not really. Each show has a decent little arc, some starting by arresting the wrong person, some by dismissing one person then changing their mind, and others by not having a clue until the end, and others having the right person all along. It's a really nice mix of various forensic evidence and how it's all used together to piece together a case and describe what probably happened.

It sort of reminds me of that old HBO series "Autopsy," if you are into that stuff.

That show was great... comic timing / writing were on point. Krysten Ritter and Van Der Beek nailed it. Too bad those fringe type comedies don't usually make it...

Makes me think of another favorite that died a quick death, Ben and Kate.

Dakota Johnson was unexpectedly fantastic and all the little side characters really clicked

I watched episode 1 of Hip-Hop Evolution on Netflix.

Being a music nerd who loves music history, it's off to a very strong start. This is a documentary, and the director managed to get access to the very people who are pointed at as the beginning. Full of interesting tidbits about the Bronx, what life was like, and how it all started.

Looks like there are only 5 episodes. I'm going to guess I'll want more.

I couldn't help myself, so I binge-watched that over 2 days. It definitely delivered on the promise of the first episode. I'm hoping they do more in 2017, but can't find any info on that.
