This show is superb. 19th Century gothic horror at its finest imo.

It brings all the classic goth horror monsters and characters together in a compelling story that echo's the old Hammer movies but with a bit of tweaking that keeps it fresh.

Great production values, great acting, nothing not to like about this.
Eagerly looking forward to S2.
Interesting you pick Hammer, and I wouldn't argue about that. I think it feels like it's channeling Universal, and injecting a bit of the early 90s gothic horror tradition of Dracula (1992) and Branagh's Frankenstein, whilst making it feel very in tune with more sophisticated tastes of now.

S2 is in some ways even better (no dead spots), though some parts of S1 are really transcendent. I'm embarking on S3 shortly.

yeah, I forgot about Branagh's Frankenstein, definately parallels there, but it still has a distinct freshness that has been lacking in gothic horror for a long time imo. I am a sucker for traditional gothic tho' so am probably bias.

Enjoy S3

Stranger Things is also totally cliche King to 100%. I used to read a lot of King back in the day, and if you had to add up all the things that are common to King:

Spoiler:

Police officers. There has never been, in my memory, a "bad cop" in a King novel.

The lead cop has some history with a major female character, which, more often than not, involves her cheating. They are always apart during the story.

Scientists: always bad. More often than not, doing some psycho-weirdness.

Children speak like 30 year olds. Of course, with their innocent minds, they are the first to encounter the demonic creatures.

Parallel universes... nothing to see here.

All the mothers are single, or, if married, hates the husband.

Toss in some music lyrics. King is very big on characters singing to music.

Boy totally ****s up with girl and wins her back, lol. (this was kind of WTF to me)

The list can go on and on...

I thought Stranger Things was okay. Not great, not horrible. I liked the mood but wasn't so hooked on the story. Probably not my chosen genre.

The Andrew Dice Clay sitcom "Dice" is pretty ****ing fantastic. Funny as hell. It's on Hulu right now....8 episodes released for streaming.

New HBO series The Night Of is really good. Wore fans will recognize a few faces too. Three episodes in so easy to catch up.

Just started watching the second season of Sons of Anarchy. Whilst it doesn't do anything bad and has kept me watching thus far, I'm not sure if it's that great. Don't get me wrong, I like it, but it feels like it just doesn't get very far past the line of mediocre and good.

Season 2 of Mr. Robot is blowing my mind, man. New season of Suits kinda sucks though, I think I'm quitting it. They had a good run, Harvey and Mike.

I enjoyed a lot of Stranger Things. But overall, it just fell flat at the end. A hodgepodge of stuff that just didn't come together for me.

Deutschland '83 is interesting...not great, though. Cool to see a spy movie from the East German side.

I really enjoyed it and thought that the characters all seemed relatable and their actions understandable, which can't be said for a lot of shows.

I couldn't get past the video look when I tried season 1. Does Hulu still have that ugly standards conversion look?

I thought Deutschland 83 started out like gangbusters but lost its way a little late in the season.

I watched 2 seasons before stopping. Most over-rated show out there.

Only The Dead http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3587396/

Brutal documentary by Australian journalist Michael Ware who spent 7 years documenting
the Iraq war. A fascinating look at the war up close, talking with both U.S. servicemen and insurgents. Be warned tho', this is not for the feint of heart.

Funny thing is it gets better with each season and probably peaks around season 5 but I will admit I thought the first few seasons were a bit under par and not great.

You could say that about a lot of TV shows Breaking Bad started slow and if you watched the Sopranos season 1 now its almost comical

It's not about being boring, it's corny and unrealistic. It's not even in the same discussions of great shows like breaking bad and Sopranos.
