Hmm, probably Uncle Buck and Great Outdoors. 3rd either Planes Trains and Automobiles or Spaceballs.

Uncle Buck is probably the epitome of Candy.

"Ever hear of a ritual killing? A he he hehe he "

"Take this quarter, go downtown, and have a rat gnaw that thing off your face"

"Stand me up today and tomorrow I'll drive you to school in my robe and pajamas and WALK you to your first class. 4:00 okay? "

"How would you like to spend the next several nights wondering if your crazy, out-of-work, bum uncle will shave your head while you sleep? See you in the car."

"Hey I stopped smoking cigarettes. Isn't that something? I'm on to cigars now. I'm on to a five-year plan. I eliminated cigarettes, then I go to cigars, then I go to pipes, then I go to chewing tobacco, then I'm on to that nicotine gum."

"Oh boy, those kids. I haven't seen those kids in a while. Tia's gotta be nine. Nine, maybe ten. Oh boy. And the two new ones. They're uh... Larry and... uh... Larry and, uh... Uh... Betsy. Betsy, uh... Jennifer. Jennifer. Larry and Jennifer. Oh boy. "

Candy's best work was surely on Second City TV.

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles is a wonderful movie. that movie, modern classic.

Uncle Buck has its moments.

It would be better if you said something in the thread rather than ask for a list. These types of thread starters are discouraged in the Lounge. Next will be onto top three Margaret Dumont movies.

Yeah, maybe a whole thread of these would be fine...but The Lounge is not a list-only place.

He was funny in "Splash" and "Vacation" I thought, but small roles, of course.

Some of his funniest stuff was supporting roles. Stripes? He even palys poker in that one! "If it was me I'd bet it all, but that's just me, I'm a gambler, you know Mr. Vegas"

Well considering PTA has to be one of the best comedies ever to come to the big screen and considering it could make a top ten list all time, this is the only one. From the pillow scene in the hotel room to the sale of shower curtain rings as jewelry. Makes me laugh every time I think about it. If you don't like what I say I guess "you're ******!".

ya PTA is really one of the best comedies ever

Uncle Buck was also hilarious and I loved it but I probably couldnt put it over PTA

Not to overdo it but PTA is just in the cream of the crop in all-time comedies. Coming to America is another comedy I feel is in that class

ARMED & DANGEROUS w/ Eugene Levy

Whenever I had a bad day in gradeschool there would somehow always be a John Candy movie on Comedy Central when I got home

Candy had movies where he was lead or co-lead and a lot of support roles.

For leads I'd go with:
Planes, Trains and Automobiles (by a wide margin)
Uncle Buck
Who's Harry Crumb

For support:
Stripes
Splash
Vacation

I was going through all of the posts just to see if anyone with enough posts had mentioned it.

So what about The Blues Brothers??!
