Re: TLDR Beer Club

Thanks. I'm still trying to decide on glassware. For the bachelor group I have one bottle resrved for us, should I serve in tulip? With abv and zero head I was leaning more towards a small cognac snifter. What do you guys think?

Re: TLDR Beer Club

This is what SA uses. I'd go with something similar, a cognac snifter seems perfect, you'll probably only be having a few ounces.

Re: TLDR Beer Club

That looks ideal. Me + 4 should be able to get ~5oz each. The other bottle would be for the guests with 1oz pours on a first come first serve basis. There are a few that will jump at the chance to get a pour, but luckily most will be too concerned with liquor to even notice it's there.

Re: TLDR Beer Club

Philadelphia is so lucky with the RR distribution. My local store just got Hopslam in so I picked up a 6 pack, can't wait to get into it. Then tomorrow there's a chili cook off at Swamp Head Brewery and I'm brewing a slightly modified version of the IPA I posted in here on Sunday. Cheers!

Re: TLDR Beer Club

Nice one Coff!

Gonna be brewing up a 3gallon batch of a Peanut Butter Brown tomorrow. Hopefully it comes out alright since it's the only beer my wife has loved. Funky Buddha makes one called No Crusts. If it comes out good I might make up a strawberry ale or chocolate ale to go along with it.

Ingredients:
------------
Amt Name Type # %/IBU
5 lbs Maris Otter (Crisp) (4.0 SRM) Grain 1 58.8 %
0.5 lbs Peanut Butter (0.0 SRM) Grain 2 11.8 %
1 lbs Roasted Peanuts (0.0 SRM) Grain 3 11.8 %
8.0 oz Caraamber (30.0 SRM) Grain 4 5.9 %
8.0 oz Chocolate (Crisp) (630.0 SRM) Grain 5 5.9 %
4.0 oz Caramel/Crystal Malt - 60L (60.0 SRM) Grain 6 2.9 %
0.50 oz Progress [6.25 %] - First Wort 60.0 min Hop 7 21.8 IBUs
4.0 oz Brown Sugar, Light [Boil for 15 min](8.0 Sugar 8 2.9 %
1.0 pkg SafAle English Ale (DCL/Fermentis #S-04) Yeast 9 -

Plan is to roast the peanuts at 350 for 20 minutes and soak up as much of the oils/fats as I can so it doesn't create a problem in the beer. I'll add the peanut butter with about 5 min left in the boil using a strainer and then pull it out before racking to the carboy. I'm a bit worried after reading that nuts cause problems due to their fats and oils but the worst problem seems to be a lack of head which isn't that big of a deal to me.

Gonna pitch it on the cake from the ESB.

Re: TLDR Beer Club

Is this how Funky does No Crusts? I vaguely remember when I had it one of the brewers talking about what a problem the fats in peanut butter causes. I want to say that they had to end up using powdered peanut butter but I can't quite remember. Please let me know how it turns out I would love to clone that beer.

Quick review from last night, found this for 2.50 a piece. I've been wanting to try it for a while.

Green Flash Rayon Vert

Burnt orange in color, a huge fluffy white head the leaves nice lacing and a good thin layer of pearl white head.

Smells hoppy, Belgian esters with a bunch of funk. Horse blanket, hay. Not as effervescent as the pour would lead you to believe, it's actually pretty soft on the palate.

Slight funk taste, a nice bitterness that balances out the malt and funk. It's funkier on the nose then the taste.

In the same ilk as Orval but not as good. But this is a very good beer and would buy it again.

Re: TLDR Beer Club

Peanut Butter Brown is fermenting away which is good. I racked it on the ESB yeast cake but did so when the wort was ~90F still on account of I had somewhere to be and wouldn't be back home for a day or two. There was a bit of gunk floating on the top but nothing too crazy. It smelled/tasted just like peanut butter which is a good thing I reckon.
