Re: TLDR Beer Club
New post for a couple of reviews, the first one will be Oskar Blue's GUBNA Imperial IPA.
Poured into a chalice, the beer created a gorgeous head with a goldish, orangeish hue to it. By the way this beer cost a friend of mine, $15+ for a 4pack of cans. No that is not a typo.
The beer is brewed with 100% summit hops, which I think is fine as the flavoring (%9) was not overly bitter where it attacks your taste buds, the hops were [I]obviously[I] there, just not OMG WTF IBU content. Obvious grapefruit notes up your nose and as well on your palate.
The hope and malt combination worked for me, I could drink all 4 of the cans if it didn't have such a damn high ABV. Just the kind of beer where after you were done taking a sip, you just want to go back for more of that fruity hoppy goodness. One of my favoirite Imperial IPA's to date, gives the 90min a solid run for it's money IMO.
Mouth feel is about right for a imperial IPA, sticky and hoppy with tons of flavor and enough malt to cut out the bitterness of the hops.
A solid 4 in my opinion.

Re: TLDR Beer Club
This has been bothering me, when someone say a beer has an "estery" smell what exactly does that mean.
Ive been looking it up for the last half hour, but I guess Im looking for the non technical answer.

Compared to some of the $15/bottle stuff I've seen in here, it's not -really- expensive by any stretch, but at $2.50 per 12 oz bottle, it's above average for this area.
Where is 'over here?'

Thats what I had figured, thank you sir.
$2.50/bottle is expensive? Man, my local six pack corner store they are $4/bottle.
The best deal in the joint is Racer 5 at 2.25/bottle and the hot rod rye is 3.75.
Lol Philly I guess.

Re: TLDR Beer Club
no discounts for 4 packs, there is on 6 packs and they are all individual bottles, mix a 6 if you will. So a 4 pack would be $16 eeeek!
Barney Flats is 2.50 and thats usually where I get my Oatmeal Stout fix when Im six packing it.
Edit: wait am I being leveled? lol

Re: TLDR Beer Club
Normally, Sam Smith is sold in 4-packs, but I guess your store breaks 'em all up.
I bet a 4-pack of Sam Smith around here is about $9-10 but a single right about $4. That's why I asked.

Jeez. I don't think our beer store has anything more expensive than $10 for a 4-pack.
Of course, the selection there sucks AND you can't mix a six-pack, so it's a trade off.

Re: TLDR Beer Club
2 things:
1) Drinking Flying Dog - Barley Wine Ale right now. It's my first Barley Wine, if that is in fact what it is. It's got a little kick. I like it pretty well. Nice color, and it's got a bit of a "wine" finish. Kind of sweet and dry. I no can describe good.
3.5 for now. (my scoring system seems to increase the more I drink)
2) I think my second batch of homebrew in primary is getting infected. There are tons of bubbles collecting across the top like slowly forming jellyfish. It doesn't smell out of order, and I'm going to hope that it's just krausen, but it looks suspicious. It's still got 2 weeks to go.
Edit: Fortunately, I've read about several success stories of people racking from under the infection and getting decent beer, so there's hope even in the worst case.

Re: TLDR Beer Club
Made a half-batch of Pumpkin Ale yesterday. Took 48lbs of canned pumpkin and carmelized it in the oven and added it at the beginning of the boil along with some nutmec, cinnamon and Chinooks. I put in some Cascades and Williamettes, plus a little more nutmeg later and finished off with more Cascades, cinnamon and nutmeg, then a dash of corriander for aroma.
I'll let y'all know how it turns out.
