Yeah, when he was 14 he had a brainseizure or something like that, was fully paralyzed except for his tail, got him some pills from the vet and the next day it was gone! (the vet also said, "if the medecine works he might be able to live another 2 years") here we are 5 years later haha, he also fell from the stairs quite a lot, he can't climb stairs anymore so we have to carry him around.

he's also a small dog, and he's a crossbreed, those tend to live longer.
His healthy diet of leftovers (mostly spaghetti, his favorite) and milk might've helped too

Sorry for your loss Prana. We lost two dogs last year in the space of about a week. One was quite old and so it was fairly expected, but then a week later our 8 year old Belgian shepherd went down hill very quickly had to be put down. Unknown to us she had stomach cancer. It was a horrific time for all of us.

The good news is that on Monday we welcomed 9 week old Belgian Shepherd, Matilda into the family and it's business as usual again..

I really am, and it's worse than I'd been imagining it would be the past few months. It's amazing how bad the pain of losing a dog can be. She was by my side every day for 13+ years except a few vacations and the first 6 months of her life. Even in her old age she still would amaze me. Like how she could somehow still, just the other day, tell me from every other shopper within seconds of walking through the doors of the grocery store a few hundred feet away and pop up to the window to get to smell what groceries I was bringing home.

My plan yesterday was to walk her and then do the month's invoices. My aunt helped me take her to the vet to be cremated and I have found little motivation to do anything else yet.

I believe it; it's hard to know how to start your day without them. It's like having a phantom limb at times.

Are you having her ashes returned to you?

as a general rule, smaller dogs have a longer life expectancy... giant breeds average around 8 years. Some small breeds like westies, boston terriers, can average around 16 years.

Anyone have experience dealing with a dog who is very anxious/nervous in the car? She's pretty much been that way since the day we brought her home. Whining and generally uncomfortable. Sometimes worse in certain situations (shaking/panting), but sometimes better after a long day somewhere where she is tired. We have tried in her crate, no crate, in back of my jeep, up front. Nothing seems to really calm her down.

One thing that may happen is whenever we get in the car, it's to go somewhere (dog beach, dog park, petsmart, friends house, whatever). Maybe she is excited? Should we try putting her in the car driving for 10 minutes and returning home a couple times?

Yes this. Sometimes just leave her in the car without actually going anywhere (assuming it isn't hot that day etc.) Make being in the car a normal, non-exciting event and she should calm down.

I would think covering the windows with towels could help too so they can't see what's going on.

So sorry to hear about your dog Prana. I love this poem. I can't make it through it without crying, but I love it nonetheless.

Just locked up the french bulldog because his farts are getting out of control. I think he needs that ass gas release thing.

what're you feeding him?... Most store brand dog food is pretty bad about exacerbating a gas problem because the fillers they use are somewhat acidic.

This is my dog Wilson. Wilson is a 5 yr old chocolate and likes cheez-its, wearing bandanas and having his belly rubbed. Oh and flowers.

mmm...I'll look into this. It is my roommate's dog, so he buys the food. I mean French Bulldogs always have smelly farts as far as I can tell, but they are really bad now. And he produced liquid stool when I walked him last night.

He already has his own thread in BBV4L but here is the new kitten we're getting. He's a devon rex, like our current cat, Nuke. He was born on valentines day this year and we'll be picking him up mid may.
The breeder is calling him Beeber (due to young daughters) but we'll be renaming him. Right now we're considering Atom, Zap, Tank and Kraken, but are still open to suggestions.

And yes, the breeder has him wearing a sock to keep warm

Last weekend for Poppy (black collar) and her sister who moved up to Canada this week. The hermit crab is of unknown parentage but i imagine their mum was inbetween a rock and a hard place at conception.
