hard to tell without side view but maybe a dachshund or dachshund mix... sometimes they dont get all their length until they grow into it a little

incidentally, it could be just the angle, but if it is a dachshund you should look for information on "knuckling over" on google.... dachshund are prone to this and from the way his leg looks it could potentially be a problem.

We're all set to pick up our puppy on Friday morning. The anticipation is almost killing me! We settled on a name -- Winnie. Crate, leash, collars, food and toys have all been purchased.

Here are a few more pictures of the litter that the breeder sent us:

That dog looks like it would be impossible to housebreak! I always wanted a dachshund. Wonder what their personalities are like? Someone told me they can be aggressive, but they sure don't look aggressive.

One of my pups is a dachshund. I had another one growing up as well. I wouldn't call them aggressive, but territorial. She definitely has a voice and let us know if someone is say, walking up the driveway. I don't think she would ever bite someone or something unless she was in complete flight or fight mode, which I don't really see happening ever. She is very docile when she doesn't have an "area," if that makes sense.

For instance, we went to a large dog park meetup (probably 100+ dogs). When she was on the leash walking around, she wasn't really comfortable, but she simply avoided all the other dogs. When we sat down, put down a blanket and established an "area," she would actively defend that territory barking and snapping. It's definitely something we have tried to curtail, but her instincts are strong.

Dachshund in German means Badger Dog. They were bred to be put into the one end of a badger hole, bark and act vicious enough that the badger would leave out the other end, where the hunter would kill the badger. From what I understand, badgers are pretty vicious themselves, so to scare one like that means the dog has to be able to act pretty tough.

But they are damn cute and the sweetest dog to us!

Oh my god I think I'm in love with your dog. What's her name? Is your dog 100% housebroken? Sounds a bit similar to a terrier personality in that terriers are not afraid to go after animals down holes. I recall Fishwhenican saying how much he loved his dachshund. They are awfully damn cute!

Just to make sure the Basset doesn't get jealous and because this thread can always use more pics:

Dachshund is named Deuce and the Basset is Ace.

They are not 100% housebroken. It's quite close. If we are always watching, the dogs will always go to the door and tell us to go out. Fine. But when we are not around, they won't hold it for very long before just going in front of the door. It's infinitely better than it was 2 months ago. So I'm hoping in 2 months we can have them spend lots more times out of the crates.

Same thing!

Also, here's Oscar! I love Dachshunds! They're very stubborn so they're hard to train, but fiercely loyal and I can't imagine a better buddy.

I lost my dog yesterday after 13 years. I let her out yesterday morning just like any other morning and by the time I got out of the shower she had collapsed and died. She was getting old but figured hips or something would cause me to have to put her down before anything like this happened.

She found me and an ex-girlfriend one night in 1997 and I decided to keep her after trying to return her and finding out from the owner's father that the man & woman taking care of her neglected her the lady didn't even feed her while the guy was out of town (trucking).

She was the smartest dog I've ever come across and was truly a best friend. She was there for me during difficult times in the past and I probably wouldn't even own the business I do (pet waste removal) if I hadn't had her. It's cool to think I made her life better but she truly changed mine.

I've been basically unable to do anything but mourn so far. Let's hope it gets better. I had been trying to mentally prepare for this for some time since she was getting old but I'm not sure it helped at all.

RIP Bailey - 1997-2011

RIP

My maltipoo turned 19 today, gonna be weird when he's gone, I known him my whole life, he's still doing fine though

I'm more worried about my boxer, she's been having breathing problems lately (astma attacks), she's 7, pretty old for a boxer...

Advice for prana - Get another dog. You might think you don't want one, but it will ease the grief.

Yeah I've been thinking I'm going to go check out the local humane society tomorrow and maybe adopt again. It's just too weird all the stuff that reminds me she's gone. I woke up this morning to food crumbs on my floor. All I remember ever sweeping up is dog hair.

How wonderful that she passed on her own, outside, at home.

Sorry for your loss, Prana -- you must be gutted.
