Hello, thanks!

I'm not really sure if it has anything to do with it but as I said before, his favorite things to eat and are milk, spaghetti and a looot of leftovers, we give him dogfood in the morning, sometimes dogsnacks during the day but dinner we give him leftovers 99% of the time, he will basically eat everything(obv don't give him chocolate etc). Except mushrooms he will spit it back out right on the kitchenfloor.

Again I don't know if it's got anything to do with it. I believe it depends on the dog, my boxer cannot eat anything but dogfood because he will get terrible eczema from it.

We had our fair share of luck too. A few months ago he was very sick, couldn't lift his head up (terrible sign). But somehow he managed to pull through and he's back good as new. At about 15yo he suffered some kind of brain damage. Only thing he could move was his tail, but the vet gave us some pills, the next day he was already walking ... it was quite miraculous.
He also has astma so we can't walk him that much, but he doesn't mind, he wants to sleep.

Also lots of love I guess, and he's a small dog, and a mixed breed, doesn't that in general make a dog live longer? I won't be amazed if snuffle outlives sam, boxers have a very small lifespan but who knows!

My cat ate nearly 1/3 of one of these the other night:

Really disturbing, although I guess they're carnivores. I expected him to puke it up, but he kept it down like a champ. This same little ****er is the one who likes to eat pizza. Actually, he likes to eat anything that he can get his paws on.

About 15 years ago I went to SAFE, an animal rescue organization to adopt a cat. They had a beautiful sweet little calico girl. Her mother had been killed in an accident and the rest of her litter had all been adopted except her. When her sister was adopted and she was left alone she reached her little paw through the cage and tried to grab her to keep her with her. The foster home told me this, and when I saw her she reached for me through the cage too and I fell in love with her instantly.

They sent her home in a blue blanket, she was quite a little handful. I named her Scampi. She would play my messages on my answering machine and clear them when she saw the flashing light. She would literally knock my phone off the receiver when it rang and meow into it. She loved to be held and would wrap her paws around me and hug my neck.

This morning I woke up and found she had passed away in her sleep. I wrapped her in a a blue blanket and brought her to the vet to be cremated. I left the blanket with her, I know she would want it that way. I will never forget the first time she reached for me. I will miss her so much.

Sad to hear about your little calico Amber. I have a 15 year old Maine ****, and I know that day is coming.

Sorry about that Amber. Losing a pet is losing a member of the family.

Here's another Oscar video for y'all.

Amber,

So sorry to hear of your loss. How nice she was able to pass in her sleep. I do hope the pain in your heart is replaced with fond memories soon.

Awesome. That's exciting!

Where did you find a Vizsla? I've been looking around for a pure bred dog and can't seem to find any of the kind I want within my state, or even neighboring states. And when I'm lucky enough to finally find a breeder it seems like they all have such a lengthy adoption procedure that it's ridiculous. I'd have to be willing to drive 3 states away to get a pure bred. I don't understand how people buy new dogs these days.

mrscrashjr found him online. She found 3 breeders within an 8 hour drive with pups available soon, these around Christmas and the other 2 in February. They want applications and they interview prospective purchasers to make sure the pup is going to a suitable home.

crashsr breeds German Shepherds for law enforcement and had a few pointers on what to look for in a breeder, but we were really sold on this particular pup by photos of it with the breeder's 2 year old grandson using him as a pillow, both sound asleep.

As for driving 3 states over, I suppose 8 hours drive is probably equivalent to that. I don't mind. Getting the right dog for my family is more important to me than the upfront cash outlay and hassle of driving so far away.

Thanks to everyone who expressed condolences. It is really appreciated.

So many awesome pets ITT, I should try to post some of my little guys. I am technologically challenged and don't know how to post pics. Sad, but true.

Awesome pup Crash, great video Gobbo.

So we have some friends in town and they brought their 3 yr old retriever/shepherd mix. It's been hilarious watching him (Brutus) and our 3 year old Chesapeake (Dexter) wrestle/play/fight.

Here they are at attention:

We took them to the park and threw the kong ball around for a while..

Whenever Dexter would get it, he would hold the ball in his mouth while Brutus tried to steal it. Instead of running away, Dexter would just hold his ground, and move his face from side to side as Brutus tried to take it away... I really need to get video if this because it's hilarious, but as for now, this long range snap shot will have to do...

My 11 year old eyeless cat, Blackster. He had to have his first eye removed about two years ago because of glaucoma. A few months after that, he developed glaucoma in the other eye, and had to have that one removed as well. It's amazing how well cats can function without being able to see, though. He can pretty much do all the same things that he could do before when he was able to see.

Wow Madden, that's great. Blackster is a very handsome cat. I've never heard of anything like that before.

So many great pics in this thread. Love the Gobbo pic of the dog under the covers.

Had a boxer mix, love the boxer.

Have a cat that looks like Blackster, had him since he was 5 ounces.

They are all so cute. I love this thread.

Blackster is definitely a cutie.

Hey dog people,

Got a couple questions for you. Why does my puppy like water so much? How much should I be giving him? He is peeing all the time. Also, why does he go berserk when I put a leash on him? How do I get him used to a leash? He is around 12 wks old now. thx in advance.

I am fairly sure you should never limit a dogs water, especially a puppy. I think that it is a remote possibility he could have some type of problem (diabetes, etc.) but I highly, highly doubt it. He is probably just a super happy energetic little pup who needs a lot of water due to energy level and activity. I have some pets that drink tons, others not so much. Nothing is wrong with any of them.

Instead of a leash maybe you can try a harness? He may still go nuts, but I think my dogs like harnesses much better than leashes. As far as getting used to it, maybe put it on him when he is getting tired out, so he doesn't have as much energy to fight it? I would put it on for a very short period of time at first to get him used to it.

Maybe give a treat once it is on and shower him with "good boys" so he associates the harness/leash with something positive?

I love the name Gunny.

You can also use a gentle leader. I've heard good things.

Thanks for the suggestions, Amber. I've gone back and forth on the harness/leash thing. I read that puppies prefer harnesses but that the harness will not dissuade a puppy from pulling and tugging on the leash. I still might go out and buy one since I seem to be open to the idea of spending a ridiculous amount of money on this new guy (I'm curious to see if it works).

I will try your suggestion of using treats and "good boys". He really likes it when I shower him with "good boys."
