Have a heart trap maybe?

http://www.for-the-love-of-cats.com/HAVAHEART.html

Link shows what it looks like. Had 2 squirrels get into a friends chimney and we borrowed this trap from our local bird sanctuary and caught them both. Released them unharmed (then capped the chimney).

That is a hell of a cool looking dog, PA. Looks like two or three dogs were cut and pasted together or something.

My dog Sasha. She's a little over 3 and completely healthy and happy. We found her at ~2 weeks old in a ditch full of fleas. She's totally spoiled now!!! She's about 52 pounds and some sort of mix between retriever, shepherd, lab or something... all I know is she absolutely LOVES the water and loves playing fetch. She also seems to enjoy people a ton and other dogs just minimally.

At a park downtown

She likes to think my side of the bed is where she lays

Wife and I got a new kitten yesterday. He's a great little guy so far, although these first few days in a room by himself are going to be annoying as he constantly meows at the door. He's showing signs of a similar personality to the cat we lost in January: extremely friendly with everyone he meets and very curious and loving. Our other cat, a five year old, is very loving with us but VERY skittish (e.g., if my cell phone rings she dashes off under the bed) and not much of a lap cat. We like lap cats.

Slightly (but only slightly) worried about how the introduction phase will go. I'm not worry about the kitten, but our "resident cat" has been doing a lot of hissing at the closed door. Everything says this is completely normal, but I'm still anxious about it.

Prohornblower -- Sasha looks very cool and I like her friendly face.

Hey-Portner -- I've had jealous cats before. FWIW I think it helps if you reassure jealous elders by always petting them first when you come into the room. Spending enough time on them to realize they are singled out for favor seems to make them feel better about any affection you send to the rival later.

That worked really well for both dogs and cats with me.

What a cute little fella. He'd have to be possessed by Satan to avoid constant hugging.

So we got back from vacation on Sunday, picked up our cat from the friend that was watching her and our friend told us the cat wasn't eating much. When we brought her home, she didn't seem herself and was extremely lethargic... looked like she had lost weight too.

So we took her to the vet yesterday and he said he was shocked she was still alive.. apparently her blood tested for 6% red blood cells and most cats die at 8%. Tested negative for Feline HIV/Leukemia, and got a blood transfusion from another cat. Brought her home last night and she seemed in better spirits, but we basically just have to hope her bone marrow produces red blood cells or she will die

Optimistic at this point because she was still looking good when I left for work around 3am and I imagine she would have deteriorated a bit by that point... taking her back for lab results today and hopefully all goes well.

Random pic (Irony - DUCY?)

So any idea why this happened? Some kind of anemia?

No good Badger. Hope things turn out for the best.

Don't want to get too bloggy, but the kitten-cat introduction I talked about earlier in this thread is really frustrating. Old cat started out being the frustrating one; hissing non-stop, growling, swatting, just being in a general state of annoyance. Now, she's being REALLY good about being interested in the new one but not aggressive or snarling, until the new one decides to attack her! He's just playing and being a kitten, but she doesn't understand and starts hissing and eventually running away, with him chasing right behind and jumping at her.

Everything I've read said that this is natural, and the old cat will eventually put the new one in its place (with continued hissing or swatting). I'd PREFER that happens; instead, she never goes beyond hissing, and the new cat isn't bothered by that at all. It's pretty funny, actually, seeing this big 15 pound cat hissing DIRECTLY into the face of the 6-week-old kitten, who is just sitting there staring right back. So I'm worried new cat will just keep harassing old cat and old cat will just put up with it but hate the new one for the rest of their lives.

Could happen. Unfortunately you have little control over these things. I do find that treating the old cat as if it were the alpha, always petting it first, eases a lot of the older cat's tensions. They're not quite dogs, but they are still very territorial and want to be the kings and queens of their territories. A new interloper being put first just adds insult to violation.

Sneaky Ferret, good luck with those tests. Our very first cat was yellow like that, and with a white chest and paws. My ex-wife always said he looked like he was wearing a tux. We called him Boss. He was such a badass. I think I talked about him earlier in this thread.

Hey Porter, my parents have 3 crazy cats that don't get along, even after several years. They've evolved elaborate rituals so they can all co-exist, and it's really bizarre. Cat A stays in the basement in the morning, while Cat B is sleeping, and Cat C is in the living room, etc. etc. And 1 of them is diabetic and needs 2 shots of insulin every day. My parents joke they run a cat hotel now.

Where was I reading that cat territories are flexible? A cat may own one place for part of the day but cede it to another cat at another time of day without caring. It will instead go to its other place reserved for that specific time.

I don't recall how definitive that notion was supposed to be, but it's an interesting one. In a way it shows that they're even more fussy, but not in the way we expect, and in a way it makes them seem less fussy. And of course it makes them sound even harder to figure out.

I'm hoping that at the very worst they will tolerate each other more when kitten grows up a little bit and isn't as feisty. Like I said, old cat doesn't seem to mind new cat until he starts attacking her.

I don't mind so much if they don't like each other (so long as they don't fight each other); my wife, on the other hands, thinks they should unconditionally loving siblings, and hearing her whine about it is enough for me to really hope they end up getting along.

If they were siblings, they might well like each other. But they're not, so ... your wife is kinda anthropormorphizing a bit there. Cats don't understand "adopted" or "stepbrother." Good luck of course, but your wife's expectations sound pretty farfetched.

Oh, totally, and she knows it. Doesn't stop her from thinking it/hoping it though.

Just found the thread, and I gotta say this thread is amazing to me. So many cute kitties (the one grey cat laying in all sorts of awkward positions springs immediately to mind) and adorable puppies. Blarg your Aussies (?) look amazing! I had no idea you bred pups!

So, my former incarnation on this board, "Gizmomo" was named after my pup Gizmo. At the time his nick name was gizmomo. Today he's known by Giz Griz, Gizzy Wizzy, etc and so forth. He's an amazing dog. Real character. He's a papillon and for small dogs, they're pretty awesome as a general rule. Very smart, very inquisitive, they're like clowns, independent, and Gizmo is a lot like a cat. He'll sit there, on the top of the couch, or anything that's soft really, and clean himself by licking his arm and wiping his face.
Anyway... Gizmo...

The last place I lived was a garage apartment. My landlords has a great big newfie who was simply awesome. Her name was pearl and she was so gentle and I really loved her (I miss her).
Pearl:

We got a new pap puppy about a month ago. After spending a few days trying to decide on her name we went with Penny Lane. She's about 18 weeks now and a total rugrat. When we first got her, though, she was SUPER timid. While out at the ranch, she was really friendly and hoppity, but back home she was totally in her shell. She's definitely coming out of her shell a ton now, but she still is really shy around new people. She's pretty friendly with new dogs, but people scare her. Definitely working on socializing her with that.
Penny Lane

This was when we picked penny up from the ranch she was born on. Her and her brothers. There was a totally sweet little guy, he just came right up to you, licked ya and then sat down on your lap/foot/hand. Wish we could have got him as well. But he was soooo tiny and we definitely wanted a hardier pup, plus Penny was a little bit more assertive while we were there.

and some vids of Penny playing (scuse the mess, we were moving)-

Sorry for the totally long post. I animals.

The pic of Gizmo on his back with the blanket pulled up over his chest cracked me up.

That newfoundland looks kinda small somehow. We had a black one when I was a kid and it was giant.

What did you get a second papillon for? Do you intend to breed them? Or were you maybe thinking that Gizmo was lonely when you left the house?

This thread makes me sad and nostalgic. My wife and I are dying to get a dog but refuse to until we have a house and a decent sized yard.

No pics, but the last pet I had was a cat that adopted me. She started hanging out around my front door without me doing anything to compel her. Eventually I realized she was pregnant so started feeding her. Thus was I guilted into becoming her guardian.

This cat was the coolest cat ever. I'm pretty sure she thought she was a dog. She was friendly to EVERYONE and had not a bit of that coy "get the **** away from me until I'm ready" behavior cats tend to have. She was happy to come nuzzle you at first sight. But she was also quite happy to go off and sit by herself if you didn't want her attention.

When it came to anything other than a human, this cat took **** from no one. She once stood in the middle of the street and stared down a car. And won. I think that had a lot to do with her friendliness towards people. She wasn't ever afraid. She knew she was in control.

Another time I saw her playing with something on the patio. I notice she has caught a squirrel. Hoorah, my little huntress! Then I notice that the squirrel is still alive. The cat looks at me, as though to smile. The squirrel notices her distraction and tries to hop away, but my cat has broken its legs. Finally she tired of the squirrel and in one motion ripped off its head.

What a cat. Unfortunately I gave her away when I moved to Georgia with my wife. Very, very sad day. She could easily have come with us, but another family was taking care of her while I made house. I found out that the family's children had taken a strong liking to her so made the hard decision.
