So pics are slow in coming, but here are a bunch of the litter at a week old. First, another pic of their mom during an agility contest, though.

Now here's the gang, starting with Kaipo:

In our new, small little place, poor Sammy just had a 5x5 concrete porch for his own space. Even when he was inside with us, the cat would torture him and he'd have no place to go hide or get under. (He's not allowed in the bedrooms) He was miserable.

Finally, I decided to ship him to my sister's home, where they have another dog, 4 kids to play with him all the time, and most importantly - SPACE! Both outside and in...he can romp around, hide all he wants, even go jump in a lake if he so desires.

I miss him like crazy, but I made the decision that was best for him. I did it quick, too, before Noah got all attached to him.

And no, this wasn't my wife's idea...she was more than willing to have Sammy with us and she never asked me to get rid of him.

Anyway...I miss my dog but I'll see him in a couple months...my sister says he's loving every minute of it and is very happy. That's all I could ever want for him.

good decision.. dont worry, he will always remember you as owner no matter how much time goes by

Anyone take their cats for walks here? I'd like to get my cat more exercise but live on a main road, so not the best place in the world for cats. He was abandoned as a week-old kitten in the woods and my family rescued him almost 10 years ago and he's been an indoor cat since then, but I would like him to get some exercise/have fun if possible and if its safe.

My wife takes our "middle" cat, Ramsey out for walks in our back yard on a leash. He doesn't get a lot of exercise - mostly he eats grass and comes back in and pukes it up on the carpet. OTOH, he enjoys it - his leash is hanging by the door, and if you walk towards the door he runs over and stands underneath it and is hopeful.

So, if you want to make your cat happy, it'll work. But it ain't a lot of exercise - he goes around the yard two or three times and calls it a day.

My 'daft' dog ripped the wallpaper off the wall last night in the kitchen!

No idea why :|

No idea why but there is just a big chunk of the wallpaper has been ripped off.

second one for Australian shepherds! I have a 1 year old red merle named Rexy (aka T-REX) and she's so damn cool. A little on the hyper aggressive side but that's obviously her genes. She is by my side nearly all the time and basically feels more like my daughter than my dog at times.

This is my dog Chongo, in gif form. She is nuts, but a fun dog nonetheless. I rescued her from the shelter when she was 6 weeks old.

my two female weimaraners. I have them tied to kettlebells when I go to the gym. The bells weigh 88 and 106 pounds but they will drag them around anyway.

is anyone else's dog super obsessed with food/always tries to beg for handouts? my dog is notorious for this and will follow anyone with food, always put his head on the lap of the eater, etc...so obsessed.

Re: Talk About Your Dog(s)/Cat(s)

We lost one of our two cats last January. My wife had/is having a really rough time with it, and I actually took it much harder than I had expected I would. It was sudden; he was only six years old, and had started having violent asthma attacks (that looked and sounded exactly like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kG5vB...eature=related) so we took him in. Asthma was treatable, but during the check up he noticed an irregular sound in his heart. They kept him over night and were actually going to send him home (with medication), but after that call the vet called an hour later saying that he had thrown a blood clot into his lungs and it wasn't looking good. My wife drove over there and got there literally the second they had started to call me requesting permission to put him down.

Couple lighthearted observations out of thing: we have a second cat, and my wife (and other people, I guess) were worried that she was going to be upset with her "brother" gone. I never had that worry; he was SOOO mean to her (swatting at her, hissing at her if she wanted to sit next to him or with one of use), demanded all of the attention, and ate her food if we weren't there to stop him. She's been perfectly fine, and WAAYYYY more friendly to us.

Also, there was a pretty embarrassing oversight by the vets on the invoice. Invoice was itemized, and the last two were "Euthanasia," then "Cremation" (wife had to go back to work and had no idea what to do with the body), then the total. Directly below that it read: "REMINDER: Annual Appointment February 15." Scooter will NOT be needing that checkup.

I've got to say, we have DEFINITELY slept better since he's been gone. He was annoying as ****. He'd meow at us and paw at our faces when he wanted fed at 5 in the morning, but he'd also knock anything and everything off of shelves, and off our nightstands onto our heads. If we locked him out he'd paw at the door non-stop, and scratch at the carpet.

One dominant animal can definitely suppress the personalities of any number of other animals around him. Just like people!

Sorry for your loss. Wish we didn't have to get used to things like that, but animal lives are often short. I've been hurt more than I would have expected to be by certain animal losses too. Turns out those little things and simply the presence of a pet can mean more to us than we might acknowledge. I still get a bit blue when I think about a dog I lost 30 years ago.

Sounds like good news to your remaining cat, though.

Re: Talk About Your Dog(s)/Cat(s)

Yea, a lot of my surprise might come from the fact I didn't have pets growing up and have never really had to go through the loss of a pet.

Very good for the remaining cat, although now she's getting a little more assertive and annoying as well. ;)
