Got to try to win at something.

Are you getting on with the USA recipe on Independence Day or what?

haha it was in John Cole's playlist! It's not that bad. This one is pretty cheesy too, similar theme.

Of course.

But the noon whistle just sounded as I type this, so I still have plenty of time.

Kioshk,

The playlist, though, from a Me First and the Gimme Gimmes concert has a very different sort of version.

One of our faculty members received a paper in which the student referred to the Supreme Court justices as "The Supremes."

"Stop (Cease and Desist) in the Name of Love"?

Katy, when I was in 5th and 6th grade, I was a founding member of the Cavalinni Middle School's all-boy choir - THE RAMBLIN' MEN. (thank you, thank you) We wore blue jeans and denim shirts. Our theme song was the Allman Bros. song that gave us our name. And one of the songs we sang was John Denver's Country Roads.

To this day, I can still sing it - the whole thing - from memory.

Also, Katy - did you see my TR of the Veruca Salt concert? I linked it a few posts up. There's a photo of me and my gal I thought you'd like.

I used to have a great vinyl collection that included 31 John Denver albums. They were lost, along with almost everything else I owned, in a flood in 1997. At least I never moved my high school yearbooks, most of my photos, and my baseball card collection from my dad's house, so those survived.

I miss those albums

Seared tuna, tomato, avocado, poached egg, and hollandaise, because freedom.

John Denver made 31 albums? I woulda guessed more than 5 but less than 10.

Between studio, live, and compilation there were probably 50. Maybe more.

John Denver was HUGE back in the day. Biggest music star in the USA at one time.

I'm allergic to 3 things on that plate:

-- Tomatoes
-- Avocado
-- The price.

I realize he was huge and I liked a lot of his early stuff but I just never knew he was that prolific. I didn't pay much attention after about 1975 though. But 30+ albums is enormous.

Music artists recorded a lot of albums back then. Not so much in modern times. Look at The Beatles album output and then realize their 12 original albums were recorded in 7 years.

Katy - Cheap Trick! Awesome. Love them.

The materials were only about $5

I am trying to imagine my diet without tomato.......

John Denver was so big, he got movie roles. With George Burns no less.

Confession: I have 2 of his songs on my ipod.

You made that yourself? It looks like it was done by a professional. Nice work.

I'm trying to think of what that would cost here in LA.

Avacado: $1.50 / each
Tomato: 75c / each
Tuna: $7 / lb
Egg: I think cartons are like $3 if you don't want to get rotten ones.
Hollandaise in a can: I bought it once and it was something like $6 for an 8oz can. Tasted horrible, so I hope you made it yourself.
07-06-2014 , 01:11 AM
Yeah, I made that myself, everything from scratch.

My math was:

Tuna: 4 oz at $13/lb
1/4 tomato: $0.25
1/4 avocado: $0.25
1/4 stick of butter: $0.25
2 eggs: $0.50.
Trivial amount of lemon juice.

I made two, one each for me and the wife. The hollandaise was pretty easy, actually. Rather than traditional double boiler methods, Epicurious had a recipe that was basically as follows. Melt and clarify a stick of butter on the stove. Blend an egg yolk and a tbsp of lemon juice in a blender. With the blender going and the clarified butter still hot, slowly add the butter into the blender. Add some salt and pepper, and maybe some more lemon juice. Done. It delivered as advertised. There wasn't much of a trick in any one thing. The trick was in coordinating cooking the hollandaise, the tuna, and the poached egg.
