Well, actually, humans and dinosaurs do coexist. Birds are dinosaurs.

For the 65% of Americans who don't want to read that:

Not in London. All the little cockney sparrows have disappeared, and nobody knows why.

Starting a 7-week "road trip" tomorrow. A big chunk of the trip won't be a road trip, but 3 of the 7 weeks will be on the road.
Here's a breakdown of the plan:
Phase 1: Drive from Chicago to Cd. Juárez. The plan is for a three-day drive stopping in St. Louis the first day (although not staying there for the night), stopping in Oklahoma City the second day and then doing the last length of the drive on Sunday.
Phase 2: Relax in my hometown of Cd. Juárez for 12 days. Get my family to spend time with my 8-month old baby.
Phase 3: Drive from Cd. Juárez to Berkeley. This is also planned for 3 days with stops at Phoenix and at L.A. It might become a 4-day trip since I am visiting friends in both cities.
Phase 4: Work for 3 weeks at a summer math camp teaching advanced math to middle-school (and possibly high school) students.
Phase 5: Drive from Berkeley back to my home. This is the most ambitious part of the journey as I want to go to many places on the way. The ones I am sure I'll go to are: Salt Lake City, Yellowstone and Mount Rushmore. I will probably do several more national parks on this journey. This part of the road trip is planned to take 12 to 14 days.

My wife and I are very excited. It will be fun to finally leave the home after being mostly at home during the first months of my baby's life.

Posted in old thread. Just returned from six days in Southern California, attending a conference with a few colleagues. It was tough work, but somebody needed to watch the troops.

Seriously?
But that's only about 150 million people.

Cool hat. Pleasant looking and happy group. Obviously the lone male makes for an off balanced portrait - or a perfectly balanced portrait - depends on perspective.

Some pop up questions:

Did Poe use too many dashes in his writing?

Also, I agree that general insanity is probably insalubrious but what about special insanity?

A special comment:

I dislike with a vengeance the word Plight. And the people who use it during a dinner conversation. They deserve hanging.

I would say they are four lucky women. :-)

Poe didn't use too many dashes, and he kills it with hieroglyphs.

I like "special insanity."

Comment: I dislike the word "beverage." And, Zeno, you think many people deserve hanging.

Ain't no party like an English teachers party.

Yes, Kioshk, and I have been suffering from alcohol withdrawal for four days now.

One of two different draft picks seen on day 4

Yes, I am lagging on the day 5 and 6 pics, but they will come, along with the eventual trip report.

No draft pick today, but we did pretty well. You can probably guess what is up for tomorrow

Spent a long weekend with a trip to Mountain Home AFB in Idaho to visit the youngest. Saw some very cool sights, actually a lot fo very cool stuff. Went up into Boise National Forest and it was really great. Stopped by Craters of the Moon on the way out and lots of really big country on the way back especially.

Also had a fun time driving Go-Carts. Not some little things but 45 MPH faster than **** Go-Carts. I must say it was not the best thing for a fat old guy to do since I ended up pretty sore with what are likely bruised ribs. But, I do not really care because it was a ball. LOL~

Upcoming weekend will be a trip fishing to Canyon Ferry for Walleye and big Trout!

That is a great flag. I always liked the British flag...it's the coolest looking one.

If only we had a decent national anthem to go with it.

I'm feeling saucy, so you get 5 pictures from yesterday and today. Yesterday:

Today:

I'm inclined to count this as half of a (first round) draft pick seen. It's not the full Hallucinogenic Toreador, but it's an earlier study by the artist made in preparation of painting the full thing. This was one of the 3 coolest paintings they had there, though:

Very cool stuff Wookie! Looks like a great trip so far.

That's cool, Wook.

Headed to LA this weekend w the galpal for two nights at a cool boutique Beverly Hills hotel called the Sirtaj. We're going to see Veruca Salt on Saturday at the El Rey. We even have fanboy passes to meet and greet the band at the sound check and to get cool swag. Still debating what to do Saturday day beforehand...was thinking of the Getty, but we've both been there before...maybe downtown and the big farmers market near Angels Flight? Any ideas?

ok, this particular internet meme cracks me up.

Not that big. Plus overpriced, rotting food. Grand Central Station is much better, but packed to the gills on the weekend.

If you are going to downtown, check out the Arts District. Lots of great restaurants, nice people, street art, galleries, and all sorts of goings on happening at random, plus it is compact enough you can get through it all in a few hours. It is the only place in LA where none of the women wear makeup. How often do you see that here?
07-08-2015 , 10:59 PM
Yeah, thinking of checking out the Arts District. Looks cool
