Star Wars Rogue One: where does it rank? Star Wars Rogue One: where does it rank?

This movie was pretty bad, and if it weren't due to the low expectations set by the prequels everyone would think it was a huge let down. First hour was especially awful and while the last bit was decent it's getting way too much hype.

Empire Strikes Back is pretty much the only really good Star Wars movie imo. I have no earthly idea why people get so attached to all this ****, well I do I guess it's very human I suppose. But yeah, you youngsters should watch Empire Strikes Back first and ignore all the rest of this mediocre drivel.

Ewoks were w/e, but Jabba was cool, the speeder bikes were cool... there was a lot of under appreciated stuff in that movie.

1. Empire Strikes Back
2. Return of the Jedi

...I don't agree that Ewoks make RotJ bad at all, it's not as if they were the only thing in the movie. I was usually too busy checking out those awesome AT-STs in a lot of those scenes. Plus the Luke-Vader scenes and the awesome Emperor, great space battle, cool-looking 2nd Death Star even if that was a retread. And in hindsight, they worked better than the originally-planned Wookiess, who were fairly boring in ROTS. Remember now those little teddy bears were fixing to eat the heroes. The new designs here were great and a natural evolution. But for whatever reason Ewoks seem to occupy everyone's attention.

3. Star Wars

I could argue this higher or lower depending on what aspects I focused on, but on balance I like it right here. The cast worked, the story worked, the design worked. It's just a really good movie.

4. Rogue One

Not a perfect movie and I thought it was edited poorly, pacing was off especially early, characters could use more work and so on. But I liked it and it is easily the best prequel SW movie made. I don't think it should have been made, but if you're gonna prequel at this point it's a vastly better approach than a Young Han Solo movie that no one needs. At least here you get a bunch of new characters and a look at things happening apart from the core people in the universe. It looked the part, and there were cool things about it, but too many characters. The villain was solid and I wish he had more screen time. But the mind monster, the pilot guy, the underused and non-essential Forest Whittaker character were all kind of messy. But I liked the movie so I can live with all of that.

5. Force Awakens

Good enough to start a new trilogy with, but it's practically a remake. I hope they take a lot more chances going forward because Star Wars desperately needs to get back to pushing the envelope and break out of this rehash/prequel thing in the worst way. They have spinoff films for that. I have hopes for the lead characters here and some new blood taking over from JJ, let's see if they can break the mold from here.

6. Revenge of the Sith

Best of the Prequels but it's not saying much. A good try, but terrible writing and a weak lead actor combined with poor story execution just didn't work for me. I'd throw in too that the design work on these are nowhere near as good as the OT movies.

7. The Phantom Menace

Pretty bad, but at least I can say I liked Qui-Gon and Darth Maul, despite one being pointless while the other was badly underused. They shouldn't have split Obi-Wan into two characters, and I would have liked to have seen Maul through the trilogy without Dooku. Starting Darth Vader as a little kid was a bad choice. The movie doesn't accomplish anything story-wise.

8. Clone Wars Movie

I've only seen it once, and that's enough. This was just awful.

9. Attack of the Clones

I don't think this one has any redeeming qualities. Hayden Christensen is terrible, the love story is terrible, and the movie depends on both. Dooku is stupid (not a knock on Christopher Lee of course). Fighting Yoda, terrible CG clones, Mullet Obi-Wan, boring design, evil 3PO, the bug things same deal with all of it. The Coruscant night city scenes are all that really worked for me visually. I tried to like it but I can't.

10 & 11. First Ewok Movie, Second Ewok movie

Saw as a kid and both sucked to me then. I think I would have liked TCW and even the Prequels more as a small child, if only for the occasional special effect or cameo. I remember liking the SW radio show, the Muppet Babies episode, but these were lol. It was almost insulting to toss this at kids after the OT movies.

just rewatched the Revenge of the Sith Redlettermedia review last night. holy **** are those funny. might have to watch the rest again now

For those who haven't seen it, it's worth checking the first five minutes out. some pretty high level film criticism with an absolutely hilarious delivery.

The original trilogy will always be the only real Star Wars movies.

None of this corporate Disney manufactured product comes close.

And even as bland and uninspired as the Disney stuff is, it's still better than those prequels.

Original Trilogy (rank however you like) > Disney stuff (rank however you like) > prequels (rank however you like)

Empire
Rogue One
New Hope
Jedi

After that it's all garbage. TFA gets worse with every rewatch, I'm at the point where I'm pretty sure it's just as bad as the prequels.
