Decent episode where Will Wheaton does a decent job - marooned on a planet with an ailing Picard and tugboat maniac captain with poor impulse management. The tosh about the Enterprise towing a radiation-brimming space garbage truck was just about okay, but the meat was between Wheaton and Stewart - barring a few cheesy moments, it was surprisingly good.
6/10
As an OG Wesley hater, I appreciate this episode quite a bit.
In all seriousness, this is a respectable, dignified sendoff for a recurring character, especially in comparison with the way Tasha Yar and Dr. Pulaski were sent off. Mostly this is carried by Picard going full Lawrence of Arabia and having some quality moments with Wesley.
Observant viewers will notice that the phasers used in this episode are antiquated TOS-era phasers, in keeping with the tugboat captain's rag-and-bone style.
The groundskeeper Picard mentions (great scene!) will make an appearance in a future TNG episode and, curiously enough, in two Voyager episodes.
No opinion on Wil Wheaton's career choice. He seems to have carved out a niche for himself, hindsight is always 20/20, who knows where life would have taken him if he'd stayed on the show.
