I have another conference to attend in Baltimore in mid June. Will be traveling with the usual five or six women. Some believe I have a harem.

So I have been undergoing a project this year where I take the shoeboxes full of old 35mm slides I have and convert them into digital images. Most of these haven't been looked at in over 30 or 40 years because 35mm slides were always a pita to view. None of them are marked or indexed so each new box opens up a treasure trove of memories. Just last week I came across my college graduation photos. Here is one that was taken exactly 41 years ago today as I get my diploma. Damn time goes by fast!

I've been wanting to do this; I have hundreds of old slides from the 70's - early 90's. Some taken in Europe and some in Mexico and Canada and of trips about the western US. Looked into the converter to do it about one year ago but hesitated. So, which one did you buy Mr. Baseball and/or which one would you recommend. I think the length of time to scan and convert and the quality are the main factors.

And yes, Time does go by fast and starts to really steamroll nearing the end.

Congratulations on graduating from College. About time...

I use this contraption which will screw onto a digital 35mm camera lens

It's a little time consuming and the quality depends on quality of the slide and how old and dirty and out of focus it already is. Then I process them using Adobe Lightroom to crop, sharpen and fix exposure and imperfections etc. Since photography is one of my hobbies I enjoy it and am in no great rush to finish. Since I am old and quasi-retired I got plenty of time

Only a couple more years until the student loans are paid off

How coincidental: I received an email from my mom (who is going through storage at the moment) with birthday wishes. (which was odd because it's not anyone in the families b-day.

I finally got my guitar fixed! But... The repair guy was only able to do much, and wasn't able to fix the tone issues entirely.

So, I put it against the wall and it tipped over like a drunk, and now the headstock broke off. Sigh... I guess I have to buy a new guitar now. I don't think it's possible to fix this one and get the tone right. I'd rather pay the extra $150 for an Epiphone Les Paul.

Goodbye old friend.

Apparently Sean Penn's new movie "The Last Face" is getting some horrible reviews. lol, "angsty" and "self-important". How exactly did Sean Penn get this far in his career? Is he really that good of an actor/director or is he overrated?

lol, explaining Sean Penn might take a whole book. By all accounts, he's a very good actor. I think his directing career is spottier. And he's reviled by many for his disgusting self-righteous insane politics and political grandstanding.

He comes from a show business family. He grew up in Malibu with the Sheen kids iirc.

I would love to hear you explain Sean Penn, kioshk. Nothing would give me more pleasure. Even if I have to read your book. Like, is he consistently good as an actor? He strikes me as being a little pleased with himself. Too dramatic. Just wondering. He strikes me as a bit of a jerk to be honest.
05-21-2016 , 12:25 PM
He's definitely a jerk! Katy, I mean I'm no acting expert but yeah he seems like a very good actor to me, and that's one thing most people agree about him.

He injects himself in politics in crazy ways, like he interviews the Mexican drug lord El Chapo as if he were a rock star or something. He interviews the Venezuelan dictator Chavez like he's George ****ing Washington.

Sean Penn is at core a very privileged rich actor, a crazy extreme lefto, trying to pretend he's a world leader and making a fool out of himself in the process.

I bet Dom is in here before long defending Sean Penn. But yeah Katy, he's such a tool.

Hahaha! oh my god I forgot all about that El Chapo thing already. I mean wtf? He's a self-important jackass that's for sure. He totally fell for his own hype, which one should try really hard not to do.

Sean Penn will always be Spicoli
05-21-2016 , 07:08 PM
Imagine going back 30 years and trying to convince people that Spicoli would be nominated for 5 Oscars and win 2.

Lol while I do think he's a great actor, he's also obviously a jerk.

Devastating performance in Dead Man Walking.

Admittedly, I have not seen very many Sean Penn movies. Does he have much range? He strikes me as being overly dramatic. Perhaps I'm wrong.

reviews from The Last Face:

“African conflict is aphrodisiac for white people in Sean Penn's crass romance“ (The Guardian)

“His worst movie...a total misfire.” (IndieWire)

“one of the worst receptions of a film I’ve ever seen in Cannes” (Austin360)

man I hope he is not hitting the bottle too hard. These reviews are brutal.

His brother Michael is a great musician who's married to Aimee Mann. This was his big hit, insanely catchy song. I never get tired of it.

Also his taller actor brother Chris from Reservoir Dogs and Footloose, who sadly died young.

Not liking that song, but I've never developed the ear to appreciate atonal singing.
05-23-2016 , 04:07 PM
haha, probably an acquired taste. Like your posts.
05-23-2016 , 04:36 PM
I'm like chocolate berry coffee with a double shot of espresso. See you when you get me.
05-23-2016 , 09:37 PM
Atonal? I love Michael Penn's voice.
05-23-2016 , 10:47 PM
Nice song! and I like his voice. What is atonal? Does that mean high pitch?

I've been listening to Chris Rea this evening.
