Was it Leonard Sachs you were talking to?

No, Charlie, it was someone who likes me.

The same accusations can be flung at Mark Twain or Ambrose Bierce. Heady company. Be proud. And vituperation can never be overrated, used judiciously.

So was the Duke of Windsor, Zeno.

And "aloof" as well. It's only two syllables, but it still stings. Of course, my daughter agreed that I'm aloof, so I can't find too much fault.

The Duke of Windsor's reward was being appointment governor of the Bahamas during WWII because he was a closet Nazi, after he retired to France - Never to have again any official post. The idiot French dotted on him and he and his American wife bounce about society in Paris doing nothing important. I'm not sure which circle of hell he and his wife were assigned to. It would be wonderful if we could consult Dante and find out.

Moved to NJ this past week. Only packed the things that could fit in my car. Needless to say, a whole lot of stuff went bye-bye. Glad to be rid of it all.

Brothers and aging Mom are all in the vicinity, and middle brother fixed up his "pool house". Mini-barn is more correct, but it's coming along just dandy. I might even have fodder for Zeno.

So far all I miss is legal online sport betting. But it being NJ, maybe I can find a substitute.

Where in NJ? I'm originally from Mahwah in Bergen County.

Princeton area.

Bit of a culture shock. From heart of LV to pasture. From guy selling weed on the corner, to actual weeds.

edit:
And why are there no games going at 5pm? 7:00 start? Ridiculous.

Nut, and it's still ****ing cold.

I suppose hitchhiking kids with shotguns wasn't all that uncommon?

So, I'm sitting in a bar, sipping bourbon and eating dinner by myself on Saturday night. (It's the exciting life I lead.) Thirty something bartender who is not waiting on me, comes over to me and says, "I really like your style. You have the whole look going on: sailor's bracelet, onyx ring, leather jacket. And you smell really, really nice."

I said thank you. My colleagues tell me I'm hopeless. I agree. It's strange to reach the age when a compliment is merely a compliment. 😁

Hunt what? Ducks? Geese? Deer?(using slugs); the low end of a mafia crew? Raccoons perhaps or the odd snake or snail. Old ladies? I could go on, the list is endless. It does shows the excellence of having a shotgun. It can kill just about anything.

then and back there not much moved around so really if it moved we shot at it and usually missed.
used to also bring them on the bus and it wasnt even given a second look. different world in the 1960's.

mostly hoped for a rabbit, squirrel, or a pheasant as a prize or the rare grouse.
i had a stevens single shot with a hammer. carried high brass sixes if you dig the lingo.

Agreed, Shotgun is essential. I have a very old single shot 410 I keep by the back door for the occasional woodpecker who thinks he should be attacking my house.

I really should bird hunt more. I like to do it but somehow do not take the time. Doesn't help that I am not all that great with a shotgun.

The real mystery is where is it all going? Why isn't there 3 ft of water on the streets and why aren't dozens of people drowning?
04-05-2017 , 11:43 PM
