get a tattoo that says hey look what i put on my arm 30 years ago when i was stupid. and look how it has changed with my body.

check out old guys or ladies with them and you will see how lousy they look as your skin changes with old age.

i am not against them but if a person gets one i think it would be smarter to put it out of sight.

This isn't always the case. There are a lot of factors that go into how good or bad a tattoo ages: Skill of the artist, how well the ink is saturated, skin care (putting sunscreen on it EVERY time it's exposed to sun).

If you hit the mark on these things, you will have a tattoo that ages very well. The reason you don't see old people with tattoos that have aged well is because they got ****ty work from ****ty artists and never took care of it properly to boot.

I think that tattoos is a cultural thing, and in general, I don't mind them.

For example, I knew a few rugby players. They were both surprisingly educated and intelligent people, despite having tattoos all over the place. It was probably, in part, for intimidation, but also a part of their own little society.

In Austin, nearly everyone I knew had a tattoo. It was more unusual to not have a tattoo than not, especially if you grew up around the area. To them, it was perfectly normal. They didn't show it off, ooh and aah at each other, ask to see them, or anything. If asked, they didn't tell some back-story. It was just a bit of painting on them that you just accepted and it was no big thing, just a part of their local identity, as far as I can tell.

When you go to a job interview and they are dressed in the usual t-shirt / shorts / sandals getup and have tats, you sort of feel a bit left out. It's sort of the exact opposite as what you consider normal.

Doesn't mean that I ran out an got a tat on my hand, but it was certainly a normal part of daily life. No one appeared to do it for attention or any reasons.

If everyone's silly habits physically affected others the same as a tattoos affect others, I'm sure we'd all live in a better world.
