Re: Revolver Purchase
wow.
the 340 is very challenging, as others have mentioned. I was able to hit the target from about 8 yds with .38, but I felt like my hand was going to break off with the .357 loads.
The saiga-12 drum failed miserably. Unfortunately, I had lower power shells loaded which would not cycle the gun even with the new gas plug I purchased which was supposed to alleviate this problem. Using the 10 rd magazine, I did enjoy blasting large holes with 00 buckshot.
Broke out the trusty G21 .45 from about 12 yds and it works the best:

Re: Revolver Purchase
the 340 is pretty much stealth up and shoot em when they don't even know you have a gun from like 5 feet to zero inches away.
that's my plan anyw.... i mean that seems like it would work

Re: Revolver Purchase
Those old style revolvers are awesome. Is it common practise/tradition in rural America for teenagers to go shoot cans/car wrecks or whatever or is that just in the movies? I don't know why, but I get a weird nostalgic feeling towards that sort of thing. Weirdly, the most rebellious thing we used to do is play with catapults )=:
I'd get this:

Re: Revolver Purchase
the 340 is what i carry in my front jeans pocket when about. it isnt for a long range or even medium range contest, as at that you will lose. its for great personal protection and defense against what may attack you. best to practice with 38's until you are good than use some 357 inter spaced with 38's so you arent expecting surprise. then when you get it together choose which shell to stick in the gun.

Teenagers? Why just teenagers. Plinking is the term we use when we go out and shoot at "things". Sometimes just shooting at sandrocks or whatever happens to be out there. Certainly not just limited to teenagers.

Re: Revolver Purchase
It's limited to rural parts though right? Not as if you can shoot at local parks. I've shot at a indoor shooting range (in Britain) with ****ty rifle things which wasn't much fun. Can't remember the film just have a lovely scene in my mind that really resonates. Beautiful American landscape, sunny day, woody area, bunch of friends shooting cans and drinking beer together.

Yep, it owuld be rural areas. Too dangerous to shoot guns in populated areas. Even a 22 bullet can travel a couple of miles. The place I live is just that, VERY rural, so shooting/plinking around isn't a big deal. I have to say that I do not combine drinking and guns. Dangerous combination.

Re: Revolver Purchase
There are also formal outdoor shooting ranges in populated areas. Here in the San Francisco Bay area there are 6 outdoor ranges that I can think of off the top of my head.
Within reasonable safety laws/guidelines, most rural areas allow shooting. A friend of mine owned a couple acres where he lived that was only about 5 miles out of town. His property had a ravine on it, which made it safe to shoot without worry that the bullets would travel to his neighbors house.

Re: Revolver Purchase
I've been thinking about putting a shooting range into my basement back home, with a proper back stop and everything. It'd be awesome, probably around 100ft or so. Not sure if it'd be legal though.

My grandfather had a small place in his house where you could shoot 22 rifles. It was really just a crawl space with a steel plate on the far end angled down so the bullets would just go down. Had a pully system to pull the target to you and back out. It was cooler than heck.

Lots of folks around these parts have home shooting ranges. One that doubles as a bowling alley would be pretty balla'.
