Re: Prometheus: The Spoiler-Ridden thread to discuss the Big Ideas

saw it, liked it, didn't nearly like it as much as Alien obviously but I respect that it tried to link to one of my favorite movies. On the other hand, it seems there was a bunch of Lost-like (at its worst) wtf that prevented this movie from being all that great. I don't think they even tried to make everything fit.

/grunch now I will read thru this thread to see if I'm with or against the majority

Saw it last night then had a dream I was being chased by alien chupacabra-like things in an eccentric rich man's compound.

Kinda. I would have been nice if they spent some time improving on what was in the movie instead of having a bunch of discussions about what might be happening in world that is not shown in the movie. I get the whole "show the tip of the iceberg" approach, but if the tip of the iceberg is a pile of **** who cares about the great stuff beneath the surface.

That's what's funny about it. If the film is at all consistent, she'll get her head ripped off the minute she steps off the ship and won't get any answers.

Well, and probably the director too. Doesn't he have any responsibility to make sure the script makes sense and tells a decent story.

Also, I know many like the ambiguity, but I especially hated it here.

In general, I'm not a huge fan of ambiguity in movies, but I have come to tolerate it more over the years. My problem with all the ambiguity in this movie is that there are seemingly so many internal contradictions, that it is impossible for for the viewer to 'fill in the blanks' in a meaningful way.

Just finished watching all the red letter media review of the star wars prequels. They do a great job explaining exactly why those movies are horribly written. Really gives a lot of insight into the movie writing process even if you aren't a star wars fan.

Re: Prometheus: The Spoiler-Ridden thread to discuss the Big Ideas

saw it last night and thought this was an excellent movie I really enjoyed it. I think a lot of the plot holes will be answered in the sequel. Fox just confirmed there will be a sequel yesterday with the main character going to the planet of the makers with David.

Saw this, the reviewer's voice is unlistenable

Re: Prometheus: The Spoiler-Ridden thread to discuss the Big Ideas

Hehe ya. That's exactly the reason I didn't get into them when they first came out. But I gave them another shot and the analysis was interesting enough that I could just get over it. After a while it grows on you, although I agree that on initial viewing I thought he sounded like a complete moron and not funny at all. It gets better though, especially if you are interested in star wars.

(probably meant to post that in the movie thread. Wondering why I am reading that post in the Prometheus thread. I was probably drunk.)
