I should bump this thread. So far, so good, and everything between MrsWookie and baby has looked healthy so far. We know it's a girl, which I'm not supposed to tell anyone, but you folks don't count. I had to go to war just to get to let us know in advance. MrsWookie was opposed to even us knowing, let alone sharing that info prior to birth. I'm not sure why, because none of her stated reasons withstood much scrutiny. Only two really make any sense.

1. She hates pink, so she doesn't want a daughter getting tons of pink ****.
2. She doesn't want to discourage a daughter from playing with, like, bugs and frogs and **** that boys are supposed to like and that are supposed to make girls go ew.

OK, I can roll with that. But she doesn't hate blue on a boy (or a girl). She doesn't seem to want to push dolls or tea sets on boys. She says she doesn't want to get a bunch of hyper-gendered stuff as gifts, but she also wants to dress a daughter up in dresses and tutus and cute girly ****, as long as they aren't pink. She says she doesn't want to make the gender reveal a big deal, except she wants to make it a huge deal by keeping it a secret until birth. She says she doesn't want name criticism so we shouldn't reveal the name until birth, which I am 100% on board with, but that doesn't require keeping gender a secret. Is this "a type?" Are there arguments that work against this? It seems to me that the most reasonable thing is to just reveal the gender right away in a non-dramatic fashion to people who might care enough to give gifts and say that we don't want a bunch of hyper-gendered and especially pink crap, but this has been rejected. Because apparently people won't give hyper-gendered pink crap if they find out after birth?

I have simultaneously a list of a million acceptable names and none that seem any good. Any ideas on picking just one and actually liking it?

Congrats!

My advice on a name is just go with the second one you both agree on.

Don't try to figure too much of this out with logic. Understand that your vote now counts for about 10%. Love your wife and child and unless it is complete lunacy support what she wants to do. None of this so far is complete lunacy.

Names:
We named our daughter Annastasia and call her Anna when she is not in trouble. I like it and it is a lot better than so many other goofy names floating around out there.

Biblical names or flowers than aren't stripper names.
A middle name that can substitute as a first, in case she hates the first.

Wookie, I think you should stick with your usual for a name. You know, K or J or C.

Well, my son was born a few weeks ago. He's been eating nonstop and actually sleeps pretty well. Things are going really well.

But... How come no one mentioned how much harder the 2nd one is? Wow, the work is nonstop. We used to pass the child between us and one person would get a break. Now we are simply trading a baby and a toddler back and forth.

I can't imagine what happens when I go back to work next week, much less when she goes back to work in October. Man. This is rough. Don't get me wrong, it's fun, but it's a lot of work.

Well, we were expecting a longer and more gradual labor, but we're getting pretty close to the "4 minutes between contractions, lasting 1 minute, over an hour's time" metric that says we go to the hospital.

Not sure about a feminine form of Aaron. But we are now admitted to the hospital and at 5 cm dilated.

Hope she has a smooth labor!

After losing our full term baby girl to a fluke cord accident last year I'm glad to say my wife is 15 weeks pregnant. Hope to read lots more happy stories on here to keep me positive.
