prefer thicker crust/deep dish but like thin crust too although i've never understood the fascination with the ultra thin crust, it almost seems like that is all some people care about when talking pizza

Re: Poll: Chicago vs. New York-style Pizza
New York Pizza doesn't plug up my bunghole the way the chicago pizza does
actually, I'm half serious - I had what was supposedly real chicago pizza and it literally was more like a pie then a pizza the way they loaded it up
there are a couple local places here in Minneapolis I order from now when I want pizza - both pretty much dominate the thin crust

New York is closer to perfect pizza, but I prefer a thinner crust than even that. The best I've ever had was a Diabolo pizza in Villach, Austria.

Re: Poll: Chicago vs. New York-style Pizza
There's a St. Louis style that has an ultra-thin crackerish crust and parmesan cheese. We used to eat it in sw mo.
edit: looks like provolone, swiss, and white cheddar, not parmesan.

kioshk, that St. Louis pizza is Imo's. Which is of course awesome.
All pizza is good, you can't go wrong with any of it. Eating pizza with a fork is just weird though but obv. it tastes good. Chicago dogs are the best. Love biting into a whole pepper with the dog.

I don't know how pizza and Vienna can be put in the same sentence. I ordered a pie with my GF and it came with no cheese. We looked at each other like WTF is this. Then we spoke to the waitress and asked about the cheese and she looked at us like WTF. LOL cultural differences.
Thin crust for the win. When the ratio of cheese, sauce and crispy crust is right it is perfect IMO. Chicago is just to much dough.

Re: Poll: Chicago vs. New York-style Pizza
I honestly believed the score would be about 108-2, and that all of the commentary would center around the fact that this isn't even really worthy of a discussion amongst people who know and love pizza.
Chicago pizza is more like a casserole.
NY pizza is more like the greatest thing ever invented by any human ever.

Re: Poll: Chicago vs. New York-style Pizza
Personally prefer Chicago pizza, if it is done right. Needs to have a good amount of cheese and enough topping and sauce to offset the thicker crust. I have had "chicago" style pizza that was just all crust and it sucks hard and I would take a NY pizza in a heartbeat over that. But a good really well done Chicago pizza is a wonderful thing

Villach is on Austria's southern border with Italy and Slovenia and is a major layover spot when travelling by train.
I need to try pizza in St Louis, it sounds good.

My Italian-American friend was super bummed when he visited Italy and the Italian food was not very similar to Italian-American food.
