Re: Plot holes in Great movies

The whole premise of Alien 3.

It is supposedly a mining refinery run by felons in the middle of nowhere.
So in a glaxy of over-abundance of basically anything - it would have to be pretty farking rare thing to want to refine - q.e.d. its valuable. But, instead of paying people to refine this important stuff, they build a huge prison in the middle of nowhere to take advantage of slave labour.

So if it is valuable - you would not leave it to criminals.
If it is not valuable - why bother mining it - just leave the prisoners to rot.

Or even, in a world where you can cyrogenically freeze people for long-distance travel - surely you just cyro-comatose the mofoprisoners into storage somewhere guarded....yet apparently this is somehow a world where death penalty is not ok yet some how prison slave labour hire is cool - what a hair splitting convenient moral system that is.

And falling for the same Alien hitchhiker trick.

Re: Plot holes in Great movies

um you do realize that throughout history slaves have been used to mine extremely valuable resources right?

it's not like you need skilled labor to work the mine, are you familiar with the diamond industry?

Batman Begins The device that they smuggle into the city is a big microwave that instantly turns water into vapor, yet it has no impact on human beings, who are made up of mostly water.

Indiana Jones and the last crusade

Jehovah begins with an "I", so why is there even a "J" on the floor in a 2000 year old booby trap that should contain only latin letters? Also, Indy saves himself by grabbing the blocks next to him, neither of which are "I."

watched Patton yesterday, great film! 8.5+/10 imo

reminded me a bit of lawrence of arabia with its long runtime, grandscaled epicness, war and plentiful desert scenes. sick performance by the main actor.

Re: Plot holes in Great movies

Almost seems wrong to mention anything written or directed by Quentin Tarantino, as I'm pretty sure he leaves them in his movies intentionally just to **** with people, but...

True Romance...one would expect that, given the fact that the meeting at the end was a setup (Balkie you rat) that the cops would have a description of Clarence and Alabama, but they a) survive the shootout (Clarence miraculously regains consciousness in the nick of time to make their escape), b) take the elevator down to the lobby, c) walk out the front door of the hotel where cops are crawling all over, d) get into their highly-conspicuous purple convertible Cadillac and e) drive away unseen by any of the hundreds of cops on the scene. I mean...wat?

Reservoir Dogs...the pseudo Mexican standoff toward the end. Mr. White is aiming at Joe. Joe is aiming at Mr. White. Nice Guy Eddie is aiming at Mr. White. SHATS. Joe, Eddie dead. Who shot Eddie?

Kill Bill...Beatrix drives around in broad daylight in the Pussy Wagon after having obviously killed the owner of Pussy Wagon (even Mayberry RFD could have put those pieces together). Maybe cops should have been on the lookout for said Pussy Wagon?

For a non-Tarantino submission,

Return of the King...more a plot hole in the original story than the movie, but they had flying eagles ffs. Why walk all the way to Mount Doom when you could have just flown?

Been quite some time since I've watched, though I believe Mr. White gets off shots in both directions before going down.

tarentino has acknowledged that the standoff scene was flawed but said it looked so good and he kindv liked the flaw so he kept it in.
but he was aware.

Worse, the psychoactive drugs they've been putting into the water supply for weeks becomes active when it turns into steam. So anyone in Gotham taking a hot shower, making hot tea, or even cooking ramen would have already had their brains fried and gone berserk.

I'd always assumed Mr White shot both Joe and Nice Guy Eddie, as he was still alive (though badly wounded) after the shootout was over.

Many of these aren't great movies, but some of these plot holes are pretty good. For some reason it jumps to #10 of 17, so you need to scroll forward and backward to see them all.

Re: Plot holes in Great movies

Not really a plot hole here but in Beetlejuice it always bugged me how they go to dig up his grave with shovels and you clearly see when Alec Baldwin digs his shovel in that it's a loose ply of some board that he can simply pick up and toss aside. They dig 6 feet of this stuff up as inefficiently as possible and get to the casket and let out an exasperated "Oh! It's about time."

Re: Plot holes in Great movies

In Rocky II Rocky works at Mick's gym doing odd jobs b/c his wife doesn't want him to fight anymore. He's just gone the distance with the champion in the first film, who is publicly ridiculing him trying to get him to fight again so he can whoop him and prove he took him too lightly the first time around. Anyway, a bunch of the fighters at the gym also pick on Rocky and call him chicken and stuff. It makes no sense. Yes, the job is a bit degrading, but this is Rocky's gym. These people know him. He's one of Mick's closest pets. He's just gone the distance with the champion. He'd be treated with great respect and reverence, even though he's now "retired". These guys would want to pick his brain and befriend him because people gravitate toward successful people.

The way they treat him helps further the plot as it eats away at him until finally he talks Adrienne into letting him fight the rematch. But it doesn't make any sense.

Re: Plot holes in Great movies

not technically a plot hole, but one thing that never made sense to me is why brad and his partners were eating burgers at 7:30am and why was the wolf wearing a tux at 8:15am?

We're never shown Micky teaching Rocky how to write with his right hand in Rocky. See Beginning of Rocky 2.

It isn't a plot hole in Kill Bill imo, in that film's universe it's fine. May as well wonder why she can walk through Japanese airports with a katana sword unaccosted, or defeat a whole army of gangsters who for some reason mercifully decide to bring martial arts weapons instead of guns.

Meh, I know you're right, which is why I prefaced the post the way I did. You could fill a decent sized pamphlet with stuff like that from his films. He uses them a lot to further his stories, and somehow it (usually) works.

Like in Reservoir Dogs, the cops know where the hideout is, presumably are watching it...yet sit idly by while one of their own gets tortured and murdered only because Joe hasn't showed up yet? That's a hugely unrealistic hole in the story IMO, but the story simply wouldn't have worked without it.

Re: Plot holes in Great movies

I didnt think Mr.Orange or Marvin Nash had a radio or smartphone on them. The cops know where the hideout is, and are presumably watching the outside of it. If they had cameras set up inside or a visual, I imagine it would have been quite a sad dereliction of duty to let a fellow officer be tortured and immolated right before their eyes. Then again, it is Tarantino.

Re: Plot holes in Great movies

Very unlikely real police let the robbery go down at all in Reservoir Dogs. Too big a chance that civilians get hurt. Much more likely they bust everyone at the coffee shop beforehand and charge them with conspiracy + weapons charges (they're all ex-cons, so just possessing a handgun is a crime).
