Re: OFFICIAL LOUNGE ARTS & HUMANITIES DRAFT THREAD

Round 3 Pick

Category: Sculpture

Artist: Auguste Rodin

Sculpture: The Thinker

The Thinker, originally titles The Poet, is supposed to be Dante contemplating his work UNDRAFTED. The sculpture was part of the great sculpture Gates of Hell which represented the UNDRAFTED piece of literature.

The sculpture is clearly representing someone in deep thought and this became what it was known for. Rodin made a small plaster sculpture of it and then made a big version in bronze which is now in Musee Rodin in Paris (in the garden). The sculpture was famous and Rodin made copies to sell to museums around the world, many American museums (and a few universities, such as Stanford and Columbia) have copies prominently displayed. Buenos Aires also has a copy which can be seen in the picture below.

My first pick was about passion, my second pick was about laughter and this pick is about thought. I want my island to be passionate about what they do, to have a good time while living and to think deeply about the wonders of life. With this pick I steer my civilization to more intellectual pursuits. The sculpture has inspired me and I hope it can inspire my citizens.

Picks:
1st round: Let It Be (Naked)- The Beatles
2nd round: Seinfeld, the TV show
3rd round: The Thinker - Auguste Rodin.

Have you ever been to the Rodin museum in Paris? It's my favorite museum in the world.
I know who you're taking about.
I have been to the museum, this is where I fell in love with his art. It might also be my favorite museum in the world. An undrafted sculptor has a very nice museum in Rome which was a contender for sculpture, but I just love The Thinker too much.

Rodin's best work, I think. Or at least near the top. But who's can argue with picking one of many?

A great sculpture. They have a copy at the Met in New York. It was nice seeing it in person.

So it's a good chunk of music to hopefully inspire new planet. There are 2 composers I like more, so this pick was very tough for me to make. I definitely wanted to select a classical composer though, even though my favorite music is from UNDRAFTED band. I think a lot of people get sick of Nutcracker music and its association with UNDRAFTED holiday, but keep in mind my god is Zeus, so the music will begin without context. Also, I don't really know a ton about classical music and I assume that if I did, I would likely have ended up with a different choice. That's why I kinda wanted to grab this now. I don't know a lot and if good composers go, then I'll be kinda SOL.

With no context? Now I can really did that concept. I don't why that put me on a whirl. You should have wrote "**** off. lol."

Here's the one in Cleveland, Ohio. I practically worshiped this statue back then. So simple, yet so meaningful. Art that says everything to you, but ultimately, its meaning is stuck in the one place no human can ever reach: his brain.

excellent choice.

Love the Hobby and Vix picks.

I forgot the Muppets. And so many guest stars. Nice.

And I was always drawn to that painting. Something just pulls you in.

...huh?

You're really that upset about 90 minutes of Tchaikovsky music? First round saw a 47 minute Dylan album and a 35 minute Beatles album go off the board. But an hour and a half of Tchaikovsky in the late 3rd round is inexcusable......okay.

The one I picked? I didn't have it in mind as a pick until earlier today. I went through checking out as many paintings as I could for a few hours and that really stuck with me (I'd seen it before but forgot bout it). I'm not sure why. It has this leisurely, peaceful quality about it but doesn't feel sentimental. I need to check out an art museum sometime. I'm such a philistine when it comes to everything except movies.
