OFFICIAL DRAFT THREAD - The Greatest Movie Characters of All-Time OFFICIAL DRAFT THREAD - The Greatest Movie Characters of All-Time

02-20-2017 , 02:33 PM
We are live. GO GO GO!!!!!!!!!

Rules:
1. Pick any movie character ever. If you want to go outside the box it is encouraged. Just try to justify any real left field picks. Example (and I hope I am not sniping anyone!). You pick the car from the movie Dude, Who Stole My Car because for some idea you felt it had character of its own.

2. No discussing UNDRAFTED! Hopefully the peanut gallery will adhere to this as well.

3. PM next in line when you make your pick. 4 Hours time limit. If the guy before you hasn't picked in 4 hours feel free to skip. I'd like to see this not get too bogged down so lets all try to keep it moving.

4. Draft will last for 10 rounds. After the last pick is made feel free to discuss undrafted and honorable mentions.

5. Standard snake draft with last place picking first in second round and so forth.

6. Writeups, pictures, clips, etc encouraged but not required.

Lets have fun. The pool for this is deep. Some movies appear to have multiple draftables.

The official randomized draft order:

1. rbneuck4
2. riverboatking
3. Phat Mack
4. R*R
5. herbdizzle
6. John Cole
7. kudzudemon
8. Zeno
9. TheCroShow
10. Clovis8
11. mrbaseball
12. Enrique
13. NhlNut

Hmmmm? Seems to be a slow start. rbenuck4 has been on the clock for over 4 hours so if riverboatking is around he can go ahead and go.

Whenever it has been more than 4 hours feel free to just go ahead in an effort to move things along. People can always catch up at their own convenience. And don't forget to pm the next in line.

ok well guess im up and i can't imagine anyone other than my main man as the #1 pick.

he's smart, the ladies love him, and godamnit he fights ****ing nazis.

and no im not talking about whoever punched richard spencer.

i could do a whole write up on why he's so awesome and without a doubt the GOAT character ever to appear on film, but is it really necessary?

what could i possibly say about him that doesn't come thru in this picture?

Spoiler:

and of course everyone's fav scene:

what makes this scene so awesome is in the script he was supposed to have this big elaborate fight with the dude but the day of filming he was feeling under the weather and so he improvised that and spielberg loved it so much they kept it.

THE DUDE HAS SAVED THE WORLD AT LEAST 3 TIMES (i don't count that bull-**** 4th adventure) and he still has time to help educate the youth of america.

one quick funny personal anecdote:

as many of you may know before he became an actor he was a carpenter and he worked at the school that i would eventually go to and which my mother was the president of the board so when i was a youngin i often would hang out on campus and one day im not exactly sure how old i was but very young he was working on campus (he had already been in some movies but he still did some work on campus) and he was wearing the indiana jones hat (movie hadn't come out yet think they were about to start shooting) and i bumped into him.

i have no memory of any of this but my mom told me i looked up at him and said "cool hat".

edit: i'll PM phat mack

I would just like to keep the clock running and I am guessing we have more than a few time zones in play. I don't see it as a big deal and if you get missed you just pick when you can. I think it is better to keep the draft moving rather than let it stall out uncomfortably. Just try to be considerate and try to pick as timely as you are able.

Sorry guys, thought we were starting tonight. Now for my first pick

Alec Baldwin from Glengarry Glen Ross

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=elrnAl6ygeM

It may seem like a bad idea to blow the first pick of the draft on one 10 minute scene, but anyone who introduces themselves to a bunch of guys wearing suits and ties as '**** you' deserves to be number one.

As far as I'm concerned, this draft is over. You think I'm ****ing with you? I'm not ****ing with you. You call yourselves movie buffs? I'm here on a mission of mercy. The good news is this draft is over. The bad news is we have to wade through several more rounds until you realize it, as I have clearly won.

And I have done just that you ****ing ******s.

In a movie with Kevin Spacey, Al Pacino, Jack Lemmon, Ed Harris, Alan Arkin, where pretty much everyone one of them gets to tell the boss to go **** himself, it's Alec Baldwin pulling a set of brass balls out of his briefcase that stole the show.

Believe it or not, there was a time when The People’s Republic of Texas had a weekly Hong Kong Film Festival that ran Saturday nights at midnight in a series of rundown theaters in a series of rundown strip malls. Mainly shown were Kung Fu flicks, but this is where I was introduced to Wong Kar-Wei’s movie, Fallen Angels.

I don’t know the name of this character. I could google it, but won’t. I don’t see the point.

I’ll call her The Hit Man’s Booking Agent. She’s played by Michelle Reis.

She’s the ultimate of the Hong-Kong-Action-Flick-Hitman killers. Her weapons of choice: magic marker; fax machine; collection of *really* hot party dresses.

The reason I don’t know the character’s name is that whenever I watch a Wong Kar-Wai film, I become so mesmerized by what’s going on on the screen that I forget to read the subtitles -- so I don’t really know what this film is about, but that won’t stop me from talking about it.

I don’t know if Fallen Angels was intended to be a comedy, but it certainly has some comic elements. I’ve come up with the term ‘screwball tragedies’ to describe WKW flicks: There’s a lot of roll reversal; the girls consistently outthink the guys; but sadly, in the end, they never seem to hook up.

There’s three main female protagonists in this film, and they are all obsessed. At first they appear to be obsessed with guys, but I think in the end they are obsessed with a way out, and the guys are their means of choice to that end. If the the guys don’t work out, they’re gone.

Also please note, a disproportionate number of the world’s strikingly beautiful women are from Hong Kong, and the most striking of the striking seem to appear WKW films. But you’d never know it watching them. He always has them shot from weird angles -- laughing, scratching, slouching and thinking up implausible schemes.

Here’s the Hitman’s Booking Agent in the last scene. It’s the most SFW scene I could find.
Spoiler:

She’s just had her partner/boyfriend/stalkee killed, and is reflecting on life.

Notice the Mad-Magazine-esque action in the background.

Here’s a mashup. I normally don’t like mashups, but this one’s OK.
Plus, it depicts…
Coupla party dresses
Magic Marker
Fax machine

She only stalks her stalkee when he’s not around (NSFW):

My character pick representing pick #4:

Bond. James Bond.

First introduced to the silver screen in 1962 and played by six different actors all bringing their own appeal. Seven if you count David Niven.

Everyone has their favorite but I think it is generally considered that Sean Connery is the GOAT Bond. My personal favorite is Daniel Craig. I think he has done a masterful job and he represents the Bond persona better than anyone that has come before him. Mind you, I still have a soft spot for Roger Moore's depiction.

The Bond "franchise" includes twenty-four movies and I have seen them all at least once. I find that going to see a new Bond film is not about going to a movie but more like attending a much anticipated event!

It's also fun when a new actor takes on the Bond character. Who will be next?

Thanks for all the great movie memories 007!

Baldwin would've been able to look at the Arc and the ghost's faces would've melted, not his.

Great pick. If you count David Niven, that opens the floodgates and we get everybody else, including Woody Allen. Nicely done.

i thought i heard a rumor that idris elba might be considered for the next bond?

i think he would be great.

i also think tom hardy could make a good bond in a few years when he's not quite so baby faced.

Either one would be good.

I always enjoyed Idris in Luther.

Tom Hardy is now one of my favorite actors. He is incredibly versatile and all of his performances are automatic must sees. He is currently in a new series called Taboo which I just started watching. It looks to be excellent.
