That was supposed to be a star vehicle for Henry Winkler, written by Lowell Ganz & Babaloo Mandel from Happy Days, as well as directed by Ron Howard. Winkler was completely overshadowed by Michael Keaton and it ironically turned Keaton into a movie star instead of him.
And of course, a further irony is that Henry Winkler's character in Happy Days was an extremely minor side character at the beginning of the show and he ended up being the star of the show.
I came very close to choosing Billy "Blaze" Blazjowski
He was penciled in as a must have but for one reason or another I didn't take him.
Clearly a character that carried the entire movie by himself. Keaton was absolutely hilarious and the only thing that makes the movie worth watching again and again and again.
