North Korea - Children of The Secret State
North Korea - Children of The Secret State
Pretty sad documentary produced by Discovery awhile back.
One part which unsettled me was seeing a small child staring at some muddy water holding her shaking red cup, she knows if she drinks this water she will get sick but for the moment it would settle her thirst.

Re: North Korea - Children of The Secret State
Just watched another documentary on N Korea, I was pretty curious how their economy made money to fund their nuclear weapons arsenal and apparently they export 1 millions $ worth of Opium a year to China and neighbouring areas...I wonder what would happen to North Korea if China fully picked up their effort to stop this importation...

If you're interested in another documentary on North Korea a really interesting one is the Vice Guide to North Korea. After watching that, I suggest watching all their other Vice Guide's. Shane Smith is one badass dude.

Re: North Korea - Children of The Secret State
Watched the Children of the Secret State video last night. Oh my god, so very depressing. The entire situation over there is just devastating. The people have been starving for so long. I was shocked to hear the stories of cannibalism. I fear they are true. It's hard to believe that people can go back and forth over the river to China and not be shot. After watching the video I'm more grateful for the things in my life.

It rather sucks that we "liberate" countries like Afghanistan and Iraq that really don't need it when countries like this *actually* need it.

That'd because North Korea is a nuclear power with a standing army that could give us fits.

Re: North Korea - Children of The Secret State
They don't even need the nukes as a deterrent. Seoul is within artillery range of the border and North Korea has something ridiculous like 100,000 artillery pieces dug in on that border. If a legit war starts (rather than limited border skirmishing), the North Koreans will open fire and massacre most of the population of Seoul before they can evacuate. That's why most of the South Korean govt offices have been moved to Daejon.

Re: North Korea - Children of The Secret State
The best for everyone would be one re-unified Korea.
One of the reasons that can't happen now is that China would not let it because there is a staggering 30,000 US troops in South Korea so a unified Korea would put 30,000 US on the Chinese boarder (in a country that shares a boarder with China).
New guy seems pretty fkd in the head too.

Re: North Korea - Children of The Secret State
I'm one of those 30k troops in Korea. Seoul is in missle range that is true but it's not like anywhere in n Korea is out of our range. If u don't think the US/ROK armies are anything but fully prepared for n Korea to do something your very mistaken.

This is true in the fact that china very much wants to keep the US nowhere near there borders

This is definitely worth the time investment to watch. What I came away with from this is that here is an entire country whose sole purpose is to preserve the power of one dude. All the deprivations, the control of information, all the propaganda, just to quell any resistance at home, and to keep the world at bay.
The scene in the banquet hall was amazing, all the food being served to no one, just to create the impression that there is plenty of food in the country.

Yep I just watched all three parts, pretty amazing and very very weird.
I like his statement; I wonder who would win if North & South went to war again, the North with their soldiers who have been bought up on famine, poverty & hardship or the kids in the South who grew up with PlayStations..
Everything looked so forced, manipulated and bizarre like what you say the banquet scene, and the scene with the tea lady when they play pool.
