***Need to kill ....

*not sure if I can post this here, but I need help with my tree*

See...I have this huge arsed tree in my yard facing my a front window, actually it's grown so big that it bumps against the glass. A par de ca, it's a fruit tree ...so all the crap falls on the window, sill and ground. **** mess..on a daily basis.

Anyone here know how I can kill the fruit without killing the tree?

Once I get rid of the fruit, I will need help in part 2 on how to get rid of the birds which have nestled themselves nicely within the branches. Don't wanna kill them though, just shoo them away...somehow

You can't kill the fruit without killing the tree, they are one and the same.

Re: ***Need to kill ....

But isn't there a way to stop the fruit from growing? Is my only alternative killing (chopping) down a 20 yr old tree? sighs...sad to do that! But it's trying me crazy if I don't do something about the freaken fruit that splashes everywhere and the dozen birds that come to eat and nestle in that tree! (oh and I've found 2 dead birds on the ground, cus they hit the window pane) geez ...they must be blind!

What other suggestions are there?

Re: ***Need to kill ....

There are sprays that supposedly stop trees from fruiting, however I am not sure how effective they are. There's also the pruning option, thinning out the tree. That won't stop fruiting completely.

What's wrong with pruning the tree so it doesn't bump up against the house? Also, try eating the fruit.

If I can stop it from fruiting a little every year, then maybe one year it will stop completely?? They are blackberries...and there are hundred droppings on a daily basis, it seems!! They discolor the walkway and the window sills...it's really awful. Gotten to the point where I don't know what to do anymore, since I feel bad killing off the tree...it's an old, beautiful HUGE tree. Used to be an umbrella shape, but then my dad trimmed it one year and it lost it's shape. *notice to all, don't ever make dad's do anything for ya...especially when they don't know what they are doing!!!

Had it stayed it's umbrella shape, I wouldn't be having droppings all over the circumference of the tree right now.

Well, I called a tree trimmer guy (company) and freaked out at the $250 charge! Reason, I am now in here looking for other advice.

As for eating the fruit, well ...doesn't give me time to. With all the birds picking at them and I can't reach the fruit, by the time it drops it's no good anymore. sighs....and I even LOVE blackberries!!!

$250 doesn't seem that obsurd. You said yourself that the tree is large that is so close to your house that it is touching the glass of a window. This isn't as simple as taking a chainsaw to one of the limbs and chopping it off. Some one needs to go up in the tree and carefully take down pieces of the branch so that it does not do any damage to the house. The company will also dispose of whatever is cut down for you.

Re: ***Need to kill ....

That's 250 plus taxes! Was trying to save that money by trying something else first. But if there's nothing else that will work, then obviously I'll have no choice but to hire someone...anyone at that point.

Just thought I'd start one step at a time and stop the fruit from growing first...then the birds would have nothing to feed off from, so they'd swoosh away and I could deal with cutting off branches myself somehow? Or call on the neighbor ? hmm yeah...he'll do it for me if I ask nicely lol

I would, but I'm afraid of heights!

Also, blackberries aren't bunched up in the way other fruits are. So you literally have to go from branch to branch to pull off a few pieces at a time and no squishing them!!! Tough job, wanna come do it for me...Dominic?
