Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want, cover by Clay Hill. Featured in the movie This is England

Same thing by original artist Paul Morrisey, live in 1986

Version by Muse that I found dull and disappointing

I think this is the original album version by Morrisey; at least sounds like it from distant memory

Dream Academy instrumental version

God Moving on the Face of the Waters, by Moby -- played at the end of the movie Heat

This one always twists a few thumbs into my heart. Almost too powerful.

P.S.: Sorries, was reading some viewer comments and apparently there's some anti-gay text somewhere in the pictures. Didn't even look at the pictures myself, so didn't notice. Anyway don't blame the song for it, it was just some douchebag who uploaded it, or got it from someone else and uploaded it.

Charlie, do you remember this. This is the Fall on The Old Grey Whistle Test doing their ballet of kurious Oranj with the Michael Clark Troupe. i can't find the song I wanted (I think it was Cab it Up) where one of the dancers pulls a tampon out of Michael Clark's arse during the song. Now that's ****ing art.

I really really like the local guy (Minnesota) Mason Jennings. He just released a new album (Blood of Man) and it's got a lot more electric guitar on it, and I think it's very good lyrically, as well as guitarically (lol).

I also dig the new Arctic Monkeys song Dance Little Liar. The drum beat is ****ing insanely good, and I just love all of this song.

I like My Girls and In the Flowers. These songs sound good to me. Kind of a lush sound.
Huge fan of Animal Collective.

Must've been one of the last ever Whistle Tests. This was the only Fall album I ever bought (on cassette, LOL) but I never listened to it much. In the swirl of 80s Festive 50 music in my head it's this one that comes to the surface.

Good recommendation.

I think you might enjoy J.B Lenoir. No harmonica, similar voice and song structure though.

Not the best idea to listen to when depressed (as I did) but still good (these songs remind me of watching the TV show La Femme Nikita:

Dot Allison (the older stuff)

The Brothers Johnson -- Strawberry Letter 23

This song really benefits from better sound, but the charm still comes through.

Muse -- Uprising

Heard them for the first time when they opened at the U2 concert I attended a couple of days ago. Unfortunately they were late getting onto stage and had to cut their set short.

Yes, I remember Casey Kasem saying the Kingston Trio thing. Stewart had a nice voice. And in looking him up, I see he wrote Daydream Believer for the Monkees.

Got way too distracted at work this afternoon to hear more than bits and pieces of Here Comes Shuggie Otis, but I really liked what I heard. Gotta give the album another crack.

He's the writer of Strawberry Letter 23, btw. But it's The Brothers Johnson who made it a million seller.

Circle Takes the Square. I don't listen to too much heavy shouty stuff, but these guys are really good. I'll think you're a genius if you can figure out what the lyrics mean.
