The taking of pelham 123 (1974). I liked it, a bit dated but still ok 7/10

The modern one is entertaining but does not compare to the original. the 73 version is a perfect example of that decade's New York Crime genre.

The Three Stooges

Yep, the Farellys nailed this. Best comedy I've seen since Anchorman. And amazingly, it's family friendly, and all around lots of fun.

7/10

Just watched Silenced(yeah I watch a lot of Korean movies). Based on true events. Movie about a teacher who gets a job at a boarding school for deaf children and discovers that the staff has been abusing the students. Such an enraging movie. Makes you want to go over there and strangle all of them.

the hunger games was made for twilight's audience

Watched some documentaries on Netlfix:

Chasing Ghosts - About Billy Mitchell and other video gamers during the 80s

Word Wars - Follows 4 professional Scrabble players and their journey towards the National Championship

Special When Lit - Documentary about pinball

I thought they were all pretty interesting but not as good as King of Kong as they were more informational instead of tracking people trying to break records.

Re: Movies: What have you seen lately - part 2

Yeah, The Hunger Games was not as bad as some of you are suggesting. It's not great, but it's reasonable - just a little too shakeycam, a little too poor CGI, and a little too much story crammed into flashscenes (is that the write word for very brief scenes intending to show what's going on elsewhere?). Similarly Battle Royale is not as good as some of you are suggesting - it's got some major flaws too. It's not great but it's pretty darn good.

The silly thing is when people say HG is ripping off BR - it's like The Running Man had never been made. Or to go older, The Most Dangerous Game (1932) - still the best take on the human hunting human subgenre imo.

Re: Movies: What have you seen lately - part 2

Sorry DB, but The Hunger Games was bad. Boring, ridiculous, and not a good violent flick. All of the other kids from the other districts got short thrift. I had no idea who anyone was. And Catnis didn't kill anyone.

Movie blew.

Not sure why you guts are complaining about shaky can, tho. I didn't notice that at all.

I do agree w u on Battle Royal, tho.

Re: Movies: What have you seen lately - part 2

I have to reject the premise of the movie in totality. even in theory, I can not relate that a story line that thinly veiled as a morality play is at all as interesting as a movie as significant a something like the movie "The Island"

which is insignificant.
