Why don't you replace Videodrome with one of De Palma trio of Blow Out, Dressed to Kill or Body Double? A friend way back suggested I watch these as well as Videodrome, Scanners and The Brood. Both directors are at similar point in their careers then and both go on to more famous works but show most of what they have somewhere in one of those films. Some really great performances in those Depalma's too.

How about Secretary? Perverse but won't make anyone cry. Unless they try it at home.

Don't forget that seeing Harvey Keitel naked could also be extremely distressing for your students.

Bad Lieutenant.

Harvey Keitel plays a corrupt detective who also happens to be a degenerate gambler and a drug addict. Sick flick.

Also, The Good Heart.

One of the best films I've ever seen, staring Paul Dano from There Will Be Blood.

Men in Black III - I liked it a lot. Smith/Jones/Brolin are funny and Clement (Flight of the Conchords) is hysterical. I laughed, I was entertained. I give it a 3.5/5 MIB rankings I > III > II

watched "Moonlighting" yesterday, never heard of it before i randomly stumbled across it on the TV. Its abot 4 polish man which have to go to london to renovate a house in london (black working obv.) in 1981.
3 of them does not speak any word english just one of them (jeremy irons). there is no action or romantic in this movie whatssoever, but i liked it and though it is a movie you lounge guys would appreciate.

also watched thelma and louise yesterday. good road movie from ridley scott about 2 women on the run. has a young brad pitt in it and its good solid entertainment. at first the 2 maincharacters were kind of annyoing to me, but in the course of the movie they really grow on me.

Just re-watched Paul Shrader's awesome film Affliction.

It gets better every time.

Is it possible to overestimate Paul Shrader's contribution to the art of film? Why have most people never even heard of him?

Here's a little gem most people haven't seen:

Dom, why are you making students cry? I've gotten to the point where I show movies I like, and I don't care if the students do or not. That said, they do like Blow Out and Run, Lola, Run, which I showed for units on sound and editing.

Watched Michael Winterbottom's The Trip on Netflix. Stars Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon who also appeared in Winterbottom's Tristram Shandy. Loved the dueling Michael Caine and Sean Connery impressions.

Blue Collar was incredible from what I recall. Been a good decade+ since I saw it but I still remember the powerful ending. Good call.

Wtf it isn't even in the Netflix database.
