Does anyone else want to admit that their reviews of movies are pretty subjective depending on the mood they were in when they watched it? I enjoyed Warrior a lot. I thought watching Cloverfield was one of the best viewing experiences I've ever had. Both of these were probably as a result of being in just the perfect mood to really like them.

I don't think I could ever review professionally for that reason alone. I'm far too subjective to my moods. haha

Anyone who didn't admit it is full of crap.

Alien in preparation for prometheus I'm planning on going through the alien quadrology. Pretty cool to see the stuff in alien that will be in Prometheus. It's been a long time since I've seen this movie but one thing that stood out was how great the environments look. Loved the set in the coolant room with all the hanging chains and dripping water. Movie goes from bright open sterile living quarters to claustrophobic dirty confusing corridors. It's amazing how many types of sets were stuffs in a movie that really only takes place in one place.

8/10 for the movie
1/10 for any special effects that take place in space. The models were hilariously bad. Worse than 1977 Star Wars by a long shot

Bronson

Irritatingly artsy, no character development, neither an interesting plot nor interesting cinematography. Such a bizarre film. I've heard acclaim here and there, but don't understand any of it. At times it seemed like they were attempting to channel Cuckoo's Next, but without any of the excellent story, social commentary, or character moments that make Cuckoo a joy to repeatedly experience.

I could not agree more.

I gave Haywire a 3.5/5. Carano passes her breakout performance with flying colors. There's isn't a lot to this movie, but it's an interesting story and a lot of fun. The violence was gritty and awesome!

I also didn't hate Tatum in this one, kind of liked him in his brief role.

Moving on...

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close 0/5 -

One of the worst movies I have EVER seen. The kid is obnoxious, hateful and downright disrespectful. I wanted something horrible to happen to the kid throughout the movie, much like Smith's Mallrats "That kid is playing on the escalator again!!!" Hanks has brief appearances and Bullock makes a cameo in the 2nd act. Bullock's role and performance could have been the same character from Crash. Do yourself a favor and skip this one, it was terribly frustrating.

Underworld: Kate's Back (or whatever it's called this time) 2/5

Story is sacrificed and is replaced by blood, guts and hacked off limbs. I'm a big fan of action movies, but this one is just stupid. Humans serve only as Lycan and Vampire target practice. But in the first 5 minutes we learn how humans cleansed the vampire and lycan races. Far too many 3D shots which will look stupid on DVD/Blu-Ray. It was nice to see a lot of Kate Beckinsale ass shots in 3D, otherwise this movie has nothing to offer.

This is very bad news. I knew there was no conceivable way to get the awesomeness from the page to the screen, but to hear it was this abysmal is very discouraging.

Wasn't Hanks in Bonfire of the Vanities, too?

The Toast of New York(1937)
The story of Jim Fisk a ruthless yet flamboyant robber barron of the guilded age. Stars Edward Arnold as Fisk and Cary Grant as his sidekick. Arnold and Grant were great as always but I was severely disappointed by this movie.

Very historically inacurate. Although it covers Fisks two biggest incidents (the Erie Railroad war and the Gold Panic of 1969) it tells the stories poorly. Despite having some of the prominent players (Drew and Vanderbilt) in the thick of the story there is never a mention of Jay Gould who was Fisks partner. In fact Gould was more both the leader and the brains of their operation and Fisk was more of a tagalonger, especially in the Gold corner of 1869. Fisks murder is also wrongly portrayed.

I guess it serves me right for knowing the actual history and having studied all of the prominent figures of the era and these particular incidents. If I was ignorant of the actual facts I would have likely enjoyed it based on Arnolds and Grants performances.

Watermellon Man(1970)
I actually picked this in one of the very late rounds of the 70's movie draft. But I hadn't seen it in over 25 years. I still liked it and it is a great portrayal of the late 60's. But a movie like this wouldn't fly or resonate at all with todays audiences.

It stars Godfrey Cambridge (wearing whiteface makeup) as a white middle class family man and insurance salesman. He is a playful goofball/wiseass and bigot but not in a hateful way. He jokes about race, flirts with his secretary and has fun racing his bus by running to catch it later down the line so he can pay a lower fare. He excersizes a lot and uses a tanning bad daily. But then something happens to him. He wakes up as a black man!

At first he thinks its nightmare. Then he thinks he overdid the tanning bed. He buys all sorts of skin creams and ointments to try and turn white again. He goes through denial and anger but finally begins to accept his situation.

There are many funny and satirical situations caused by his predicament. Now when he runs after his bus people think he must have snatched a purse. The busty blonde secretary who despised him now longs for him.

I still find this movie to be very entertaining but unless you were around in the 60's and know how race relations were then compared to now a lot will likely be lost on you. This is obviously a very satirical looks at race relations that is completely spot on for the time when it was made.

I do also think that parts of Shaolin Soccer are actually better than KFH... but it's a much more raw low budget movie.

Chow always reaches a point of an obscure very important emotional connection for me, even if it's just a tiny passing scene.
I gave Shaolin Soccer a go. I really tried to like it; but, I couldn't even finish it. Dreadful.

Just finished watching the 25th hour. Really liked it. I think this is one of Edward Norton's best performances. A seriously overlooked and underrated film IMO.

That's the movie that gave Chow the lift to stardom. it's a mini-budget movie (with a heart)so I always take that into account, but you are right... it's raw

Laughable plot, a poor man's Rocky, no suspense or tension, was like a bad pastiche of good sports movies. Complete waste of a decent cast. O'Connor's last two movies have both been overblown, Hollywood by numbers, rubbish.
Come on man. If that's the case you must have impeccable movie selection, because that is not even remotely close to the worst movie made last year.

If anything, it's overrated. It is good though.

Saw Beauty And The Beast yesterday. Didn't hold my attention like it did when I saw it the first time and I felt the animation was crude. That surprised me. No, I didn't see it the first time when I was a child.

^yeah... paid almost $100 for that when it came out on CAV letterbox. Never even watched that disk, I still have it sitting in a box in the garage with all my other laserdisks.

I overheard some bad reviews but with names like: Hanks, Bullock and Daldry (Director) I thought this couldn't lose. They placed far too much faith in a first time child actor, I guess the kid won children's Jeapardy, so that fit the "is this kid a genius or a psycho?" bill. I felt incredibly frustrated through much of the film.

Spoiler about the kid. If you read the book you may know this stuff already. Spoiler=why the kid was a terrible little piece of ****.

Spoiler:
Somewhere in the film the kid talks about how he has Asperger syndrome, but they make it all "Hollywood" much like they do with Alzheimers in other films like The Notebook. They take every stereotype and crank it to the max. I know a lady with Aspergers and she does come off a little abrupt, but she's not a ****ing dbag like the kid.

My cousin went to see this movie with a couple of friends, they walked out after about an hour. He stepped out and texted me "we want to leave, does this movie get any better?" =/

Dear Spike Lee,

I just caught Do The Right Thing on cable last night for the fifth time or so, and I wanted to ask...

WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO YOU??!

What a great movie. I remember seeing it in the theater in DC when it came out, and it's even better now.

Plainly stated, Do The Right Thing crapped out Crash, and left it floating in the bowl.

I don't even know what I am saying right now.

The Ides of March was interesting....not great, but interesting.

The Guard was great...very entertaining, and Gleeson and Cheadle made a fun team.

Certified Copy is very good, Binoche is great. 9/10

Yes, with Bruce Willis and Melanie Griffith I believe.

Bee Movie is massively underrated. It's hilarious. Yes you don't get the same cinematic experience as with a pixar film but the script is full of clever, adult humour and the cast is superb.

It's not even principally effective as a kids film IMO.

Funny, I am not a huge movie buff (though I have seen a lot of films). I never even heard of this one until recently. I just figured it flew under most people's radar.

I still think those models look better than 99% of the cartoonish, sterile CGI crap they use presently.
