All in all just great fun.
Great synopsis and I agree on every point.

Nice write-ups TDK. I'm cautiously optimistic about Valerian. I love Luc Besson, but Lucy was pretty mediocre at best. Hopefully he bounces back with this one.

I finally got around to seeing The Big Short. Some solid performances and very impressive that they managed to educate about the complexities of all the mortgage backed products in such an entertaining fashion. One piece that didn't really work for me were the random cuts to pop culture at the time. I don't think I really got what they were there for.

You mean the famous people explaining intricate finance ****?

this is the most memorable thing in the movie:

1) margot is super hot
2) 'whenever you think subprime...think ****' is very funny
3) the continuity with the glass is just absolutely awful. it's done knowingly but god it's distracting.

The Thing A flying saucer lands on the north pole. A combination of scientists and air force encounter a thing that begins to wreak havoc on the group.

This movie was a lot of fun. It was almost camp even though it tried to be serious. The guys from the air force managed to react to every situation in the stupidest way possible.

Gotta love the fact that the thing was a plant that looked exactly like a human.

Get Out Based on comments from this thread, I was super hyped to see this. And, the usual happened when I get super hyped about any movie. It sort of fell flat for me. My expectations were probably much too high.

Given that, it was very enjoyable and I would recommend. I just don't think it was anything special.

Wow what made you think of that???

It was picked up by PBS International for distribution and renamed Excalibur: Behind the Movie. Go here for more info.

Kong: Skull Island was a simple popcorn flick. Action was decent. Pretty cheesy. Hiddleston and Larson were really underutilized. Could have had any ol pair in those roles.

John C Reilly was fantastic though.

The Film Island of Lost Souls is phenomenal... the movie makes much more sense and doesn't suffer from the same plausibility issues the more modern versions (Lancaster and Brando) of the movies do.

it's a great great Futurism movie... and more so the actual story is transcendent.

Island of Lost Souls was a favorite of mine when I was a kid. Not that it's a kid's movie, but I watched all those old monster/horror/sci-fi movies with my dad.

Factotum - Followed the book fairly accurately while skipping some of the more humorous scenes. Similar to the book, it got boring at times. Matt Dillon did a pretty good job as Chinaski but he's a little too attractive. They reddened his face but Chinaski is supposed to be all scarred from acne. I've never seen Barfly, but I think Mickey Rourke is likely a better Chinaski. I'll have check that out.

Baby Driver

Radar Love: Check.

Viking Funeral: Check

Kevin Spacey: Check, but should have played Jamie Foxx.

Jamie Foxx: Check, but should have played Kevin Spacey.

Eiza González: Check, but should have played Dan Draper.

Jon Hamm: Check, but should have played Eiza González.

Ending: An embarrassment of sentimentality.

Plot: MIA.

District 13: Taught us how to make plotless chase movies, but not applied here.

Fun to watch. Music could have been developed more. Plot could have been expanded or abandoned. Check it out.

Gonna be hard to top the Baby Driver musical intro for scene of the year. What a phenomenal movie.

Pleasantly diverting movie at best.
Ansel crushed a very subtle role

The PG-13 version of Gosling's quiet Driver

Eck.

Then I will pass.

Saw Guardian of the Galaxy part 2.

Actually started terrible and reedeemed itself.

Solid popcorn flick.

Not really movie related, but it amazes me how many people come fashionably late

I mean, sure miss some by previews, but 30 minutes of the movie?

Kinda distracting in an assigned seat theatre

It's OK. It may fill a need created by nostalgia for Footloose and My Name Is Earl. Something was oddly familiar about the waitress. I don't know if her character was based on a waitress I dated in the 80's, or the waitress from Northern Exposure during the 90's, but I know I've seen her before.

I didn't get what all the love was about for Get Out.

From a horror movie standpoint I much preferred Don't Breathe.

This made me laugh like a epileptic hyena on a quiet train ride home.
