I've seen both films. Obviously the original is far superior but there are definitely problems with it. Here are mine:
1.) Literally everything between Lolita and Humbert is only implied. This really did affect the film. I understand they had to censor it a fair bit being the 60's. The book by Nabokov is said to be a lot more explicit.
2.) Lolita is portrayed to be at least 14 in the film (some people say she is 16). In the book she is just 12. This makes Humbert look like only a borderline pedophile. In other words: he doesn't look like such a bad man especially when compared to the book.
3.) The ending of the film shown at the beginning completely ruins it for me and is unnecessary imo.
Yes Lolita (1962) is a very highly rated movie, and it is quite good but imo what i said above are what a lot of people (including me) don't like about it.
