What are some good commentary tracks?
Oliver Stone, Scorsese, Frankenheimer, Fincher, Spike Lee, Cameron Crowe, Gilliam are all very interesting in their commentaries imo.

Then there are a bunch of others too numerous to list where the commentaries are almost as interesting as, if not moreso than, the movies. Tropic Thunder is one. Blood Simple has one that has to be heard to be believed.

She's 1 for 15 in her most recent nominations, it's hardly like she's the establishment choice.

KvK is definitely dated, but still worth watching if you've never seen it. Otoh, Ordinary People still holds up for me, even though it has its share of dated aspects. But when it comes to those early 80s family dramas, my vote goes to Shoot the Moon, which has virtually disappeared, but is still so raw and honest.

So she's one for 15.

Nominated 15 times.The most nominations ever,with a total of 19.

My point was that she's obviously not the "default" choice for Academy voters who haven't seen the films from all the nominees and so just pencil her in.

I think I was conflating the 2, my bad. She gets the nod for any good performance, but then doesn't win much. Honestly didn't notice that she rarely wins since she's nominated so damn often.

Just saw Whiplash, man that music teacher was a nasty sonofabitch. Ending I thought was a little mishandled, but I was sure riveted watching it and won't forget it soon. The actor playing the kid did a great job imo in the less flashy role.

Updated 2015 films seen, re-ranked:

1. Mustang

Don't feel like doing the rest.

Well, part of me.
I've always been more partial to Jane Fonda in Barbarella. But that's probably because I was 12 when Barbarella was released.

The Hudsucker Proxy:

Loved it, from the fantastic score, to the miniature sets of old new york and the clock centerpiece and the over the top characters. I've never heard more than two words from anyone about this movie, but I really enjoyed it. I love Paul Newman as the fat cat executive too.

Also, I'm a sucker for a happy ending.

Posts like this make me sad. I guess it is meant to get a reaction. It's not really edgy or funny or whatever you think it is though. It's just sad. Posts like this bring down the thread with their worthless venom imo. There is your reaction, I guess. Well played.

Hudsucker was my favorite Coen movie for a while. In the 90s I liked it even more than Lebowski, Barton Fink and Fargo and maintained that not so important contrarian stance up through early the 00s.

I had not watched Miller's Crossing yet which I would put over it now. In fact I've also come around to find more enjoyment, definitely in Lebowski, but Hudsucker Proxy is still probably in their top 5 for me (1. Lebowski 2. Miller's Crossing 3. Fargo 4. Hudsucker Proxy 5. O Brother/Barton Fink). I'm really not sure why its relationship with everyone, critics and audience alike, has been so off right from the get go and has never picked up any steam in any of the years since.

Jennifer Jason Leigh is supreme in it and I think it's my love for that character and performance which puts it over the top for me - on top of all the other very nice elements that is.

The first commentary that comes to mind for me for some reason (well apart from it being one of my favorite movies!) is Matthew Vaughn on Kick-Ass which I remember as quite good and revealing.

I remember Meryl Streep making watching The French Lieutenant's Woman bearable even enjoyable.

Also heard great things about her performance with De Niro in Falling in Love which is allegedly a strong love story, according to some even an all time strong one at that, but I haven't seen it myself.

Well boo fricken' hoo, Sally. It was meant to be my opinion of why i don'y really want to see the movie. I didn't like Amy Winehouse's music or voice, and her story does not interest me. Sorry you think I'm peeing in your breakfast cereal.

MASH Everyone knows the story. Only it really isn't a story. It's just a bunch of bits strung together in a mash unit setting. OK, not great.

Watched Foxcatcher last night. I thought it was great. The mood was definitely eerier and somber throughout. With that said, I was still shocked at the end.
Spoiler:
I was not expecting DuPont to murder Dave. I still can't believe it.

I wasn't a fan of Hudscuker Proxy. My three least favorite Coen films are Hudsucker, Ladykillers and Burn after reading. I love the rest (haven't seen Intolerable Cruelty, or their two most recent movies).

That's a completely valid opinion and a valid reason for not wanting to watch the documentary. However, calling her mildly talented just makes you sound foolish.

After watching the trailer, I have zero interest in seeing Jane Got A Gun but I have to say this poster is pretty sweet:

I saw it alone in a massive theater. It was ****ing terrible. "Let's spend two goddamn hours talking about an impending gunfight with the occasional flashback, then have a nonsensical boring as **** shootout."

on that note... Hardcore Henry starts this weekend

Looks terrible to me, but may be a lot different for s generation raised on FPS.

I saw the preview to Hardcore Henry while seeing Deadpool. I thought it looked awesome and am really looking forward to it!

I envy your ability to say you haven't seen Hail Caesar!
