Wages of Fear is elite. The bridge crossing is the most intense, nerve-wracking sequence in the history of film.

Man I loved Coherence, most fun I've had watching a movie in a while. Also watched Primer for the second time (really good, still confusing though) and Time Lapse (enjoyable, not spectacular) recently. I feel like I've seen most movies in this genre, but any other small indie ones I may have missed with similar vibes to the above?

Haven't seen About Time, but really enjoyed the rest of these. Slightly different genre, but my favorite recent indie sci fi film is The One I Love.

I enjoyed About Time for what it is : a light romantic - almost chic flick - time travel movie. I wouldn't call it that good (and definitely more forgettable then the other 3 movies mentioned), but worth a watch. Same thing with Time Lapse : it is not solid by any means, but remains an entertaining time travel thriller.

I will check out The One I Love, thx

The Walk is amazing. It's the first time I've seen a movie in IMAX 3D and thinking that it was necessary. Don't cheat yourself and see it in a regular theater setting if possible.

Timecrimes (2007) is decent and worth checking out.

Blood Punch (2013) isn't bad either.

Yeah a mate of mine has it and says it's awesome so I keep meaning to get a lend of it from him. I definitely intend to check it out at some point and not that I tend to pay much attention to IMDB ratings but see it's in the top 250 there.

Agree, but the first 45 minutes suck, apart from Clouzots cute wife being cute.

Saw the trailer while watching Everest. JGL's accent seemed pretty suspect?

It's hard to ignore the accent at first, that's for sure. He became the character in my mind pretty quickly though, so it didn't distract me throughout the film.

The One I Love is quite good, I liked it a little better than Time Lapse which I enjoyed too.

Primer
Coherence
Time Crimes
The One I Love
Time Lapse

I watched a light time travel movie with Haley Joel Osment called I Will Follow You Down, it was OK.

Malcolm X - Denzel Washington - Great movie. It will teach you some history to, besides how a man can change his life, stand for something and become a martir. Enjoy !

The Martian

I liked it a lot. If you liked Interstellar, you will like this. I would best describe The Martian as Apollo 13 meets Interstellar meets Gravity; which isn't the most descriptive because those three movies are pretty encompassing of space travel movie tropes, but The Martian certainly rounds out a trilogy of recent space-set movies with the latter two very nicely. Whether you like or dislike any of those films, I'd venture if you enjoy science fiction at all you will find something to take away from The Martian. It is quite an impressive cast and Damon was well selected for the roll of Watney. Visually the Mars landscape was fantastic to look at; we saw it in AVX 3D which was alright but not at all necessary (I'm a bit tired of 3D, but sadly to reserve seats anywhere now it's in a 3D theatre). Overall I'd give it an 8/10; it is my kind of movie set in my kind of genre. From what I understand of the book, the film captured some of the tone and humour of the lead. The one thing I didn't like was the movie was full of well-known music and I think it was used a bit too much at times.

Disclaimer: I have not read the book. Several in my company recently finished it in anticipation of the movie and said they probably enjoyed the book more due to depth but they did enjoy the movie as well.

Disclaimer 2: it is very refreshing to not watch trailers anymore. The whole theatre-going experience is just heightened from the anticipation of not watching trailers. I actually closed my eyes during Hateful 8 and The Revenant trailers before it started. Yes I'm weird about this.

Also made me reminisce over Ridley Scott's filmography; easily one of my five favourite directors. TM probably isn't my favourite film of 2015 (Mad Max) nor is it his best (Alien, BR, Black Hawk Down and Gladiator I think are all better) but it's right there on both accounts.

Just finished the book, seeing it tonight.

I wasn't as crazy about the book as most, I'm a huge science/nonfiction reader and I still found the lengthy technical explanations to get a bit tedious as the book went on.

Still looking forward to it, hoping Wiig is just as big of bit** as she is in the book.

So then Ridley hasn't lost it then?

The Martian

Science, F*ck Ya! should be the tagline of this movie and for that reason it might be one of the most important films to come out in some time. Its like the secular version of a missionary, offering you food but really selling religion. The Martian offers entertainment, and alot of it, but its really selling science.

I loved this movie in a rare sort of way. The kind of way that could see it make my favorite films of all time. I really cant think of a single negative thing to say about it. Its exhilerating, fun, and emotional.

Easily the best film of the year so far.

Grade: A+

subreview: Dbox seats

For the first time I paid the extra for Dbox which is basically just a larger seat that moves with the film. Its stupid beyond belief and adds nothiing. The seats are far less comfortable, in order to cram in the mechanical portions, and the movement is just annoying.

Grade: F-

The Martian is perfect. I really hope this helps get the general public more interested in what Elon Musk is attempting to do with Space-X.
