I would bet he thinks "two roads diverged in a yellow wood" refers to two actual roads!

His use of Hallelujah might be the single worst use of music in film history. It's a song about a biblical traitor. Snyder thinks its about yelling "oh god" at climax.
That's interesting to me because the plot didn't stick with me all but the mood and some of the imagery absolutely did. I will agree that the use of Hallelujah was awful and the sex scene was one of the worst I've ever seen.

I'm about to rewatch it though and I bet I will find myself agreeing with you.

edit: 5 minutes in and not sure I'm gonna finish it. maybe it was just a fun popcorn movie once.

in other news, Oblivion is a waste of ****ing time. Boring, no stakes, painfully long and steals from a long list of other sci-fi films. There is a lot of unintentional comedy too. Many scenes made me laugh and I looked around with the, "oh wait I wasn't supposed to laugh." But hey it looked nice!
I agree with most of this. I thought it had a lot of potentially good ideas (maybe that's what you were referring to about stealing from other sci-fi films) but the execution on everything was terrible.

They would show Tom Cruise riding on his bike for 5 minutes and spend 10 seconds explaining how this whole thing came to be. Very frustrating.

We disagree. Not liking it is not enough to say it is ****ty.

It's not like it's Crash or The Departed or The Boondock Saints or something.

Just watched The Sessions. A good watch, well acted and flowed naturally. Good to see three of the old Deadwood crew back together again.

One of those three is not like the others!

Only if you are mistaking Crash for Cronenberg's Crash.

I will admit this much: The Departed (which is surely what you're talking about) is entertaining. Not much of a film, but entertaining.

The others are so extraordinarily bad that any entertainment potential is eradicated by my anger.

Crash and boondock are objectively terrible films. The Departed, while no masterpiece, is a good film.

Watched Butter last night, I thought it was pretty good. It's comdey about a butter carving competition in Iowa. It's pretty light and well paced.

By my count only three loungers have seen Spring Breakers right? The more I think about it the more I love it. I have some zany ideas on symbolism throughout the film. It's far deeper than Disney girls gone wild on spring break.

I have searched everywhere for a decent explanation of how this film is anything more than pure surface trash. I can't find it. I'd love to hear a few points as I really seem to be out of touch with people I normally agree with.

I am having the opposite reaction as you. The more I read and think about it the more I hate. And I really hated it to start.

I'm going to see it again next week. I'll follow up with a review/reflection. Reactions like yours make me wonder, "am I reading too much into this film? Reading between lines that aren't there?"

It seems more that I am in the minority. It wouldn't be the first time I didn't like a revered film. After all, I am the guy who doesn't like TTRL or Vertigo even!

As far as opinions go, some opinions call a person's entire credibility into question.

I've tried to like it and thought about it for a while just because its korine but i feel the same way as clovis.

Well, it's certainly no After You Got Up in the Morning Without Makeup.

Recently watched two films inspired by musicians. 32 Short Films About Glenn Gould is a study of the pianist's life in, well, 32 short films, some lasting no more than a few seconds. Although not a traditional film by any means, it does portray the rather eccentric Gould, perhaps best known for his performance's of Bach's Goldberg Variations. The film uses Bach's piece to tell the stories about Gould in this fascinating movie.

I followed that with The Chronicle of Anna Magdalena Bach, which looks like at first simply performances of various Bach's works, filmed at strange angles, with little to no plot and only a few shots that don't feature some kind of musical performance. It's based on the fictitious diary of Bach's second wife who talks about her husband from time to time in the film.In fact, the film isn't quite acted in any usual sense, and it's nearly a half hour into the film before we catch a glimpse of Bach where we can see part of his face. I'd say watch it for the music, but don't expect a "biopic" here. There's something going on in this one, but I'd be hard pressed to say exactly what that is, beyond the rather obvious opposition of art and commerce. And there's two shots of the sea that seem to come from nowhere.

It's a well played jab when the recipient is too stupid to even get the reference! You get to question my taste and call me dumb in one sentence.

I enjoyed Oblivion. Sure, it's not going to win any year-end awards, but I always like movies that question what makes us human. Even though the question has been asked an answered in a thousand films before it, it's still a worthy question.

Vertigo is worth watching for the shot/reverse shot between Scottie and the portrait of Carlotta alone. But I won't question your taste, Clovis.

You're not going to explain the reference?

Superb... transfer is wonderful even though the sound is only loss-less 2 channel. Cronenberg masterful telling beautifully told and illustrated.

and yes... it doesn't follow the book, or at the very least there is little justice.

Dom,
Thanks for the link to the original Watchmen thread. After rewatching half of it and then reading that thread, you killed it and were spot on.

Thank you, Walter!

Mschu, sorry I enjoyed Oblivion.

If it helps, after thinking about it some more, there are way too many inconsistencies and unanswered questions for it to make sense and/or be a good movie.

I still enjoyed the two female leads, tho. Yowza.
