diebitter, I'm on your side with The Searchers except for the problem where I haven't seen the movie in 12 years or so and I don't necessarily trust my younger self. But insofar as I can remember it +1. I'll check it out again sometime if it's on Netflix Instant.

If people don't see stuff in The Searchers that I see, I don't mind.

Some people watch Rocky 4 and think it is a goofy boxing movie with childish politics, where I see a replaying of ancient myths and archetypes, a retelling of Perseus slaying the gorgon, or St George fighting the drago n.

I'm fine with it the first way, but think if I can get you to see it my way a little, you might appreciate it just a little more maybe.

Ice Age 3 Dawn of the Dinosaurs - I'm watching these all out of order. I don't think it matters. The only redeeming quality is the beautiful animation. It's a movie where every character is fighting to be the comic relief, except the 2 biggest comedians in the movie Leary and Romano. I don't recall a single line either said except when Romano's mammoth does the 80's action movie one liner thing of pushing a dino off a cliff while saying "I liked you better when you were extinct." If that sounds hilarious then this might be a movie for you.

And then found out this is from The Dark Knight XXX, which, from the trailer, imo looks like it could be 100x better than the original...
Are those nipples?

Watched Blitz, with Jason Statham, for the second time. I love how the good prevails!

Crank is my Statham go-to.

Anyone watched You're Next? Bros gf said it was turd. There is a serious lack of decent horror films lately. Anyone want to recommend some underrated ones?

People recommend Insidious, which was a pile of rubbish as well. I still can't get that laughable image of the old lady dead in the chair.

The second one is nutty, but I prefer the first. It just feels like a dream-sequence of a young guy who is off his face on pills, in a good way.

Elysium - The gritty stylized future worked for me. I've heard very mixed reviews on this but I was pleasantly surprised. Very good semi-mindless action sci-fi. Weird to say but the worst part of this movie might have been Matt Damon who felt like he was sleep walking through the role. That Sharlto Copley guy was awesome in the indestructible bad guy slot. 7/10

This Is The End - From the first trailer I knew I had to see this movie. A bunch of funny dudes in a room, making fun of themselves, and battling the apocalypse? Sold.

As good as I'd hoped? Nope. Still funny as ****? Yep. Loved the early party scenes, Michael Cera, and any scene with Danny McBride. I'm ready for that version of Pineapple Express 2! 7/10

"ur telling me James Franco DIDNT suck anyone's dick last night? now I KNOW ur tripping"
"let's not make ur highness 2"

both lines had me in tears.

I'm back in movie mode - this time searching out movies that are old(er) and entertaining.

Spoiler:

+

Spoiler:

this combo hit the spot. A+ acting, A+ script, Barbara Stanwyck is hot, etc. Can't believe I'd never seen this one (actually haven't seen any other Wilder movies. pretty amazing.)

oh, forgot to mention, I watched The Purple Rose of Cairo the other night.
I love Midnight in Paris and this kind of felt like the evolutionary predecessor to it. Just a fantastic movie (and what an emotional rollercoaster of an ending)

actually was thinking of starting a Woody containment thread (akin to the Tarantino one)

Can't go wrong with any Wilder...you should try The Apartment or Some Like it Hot next

I guested on a podcast called Talk Without Rhythm a few weeks ago, and the episode got released today. Here's a direct link if you want to hear me talking about the Quatermass movies

Just watched Filth and enjoyed it. I love this kind of film. British film is so underrated at times. The story wasn't exceptional by any stretch of the imagination but its about the great performance by James McAvoy. He is such an underrated actor it is absurd. He was excellent in the early 2 seasons of Shameless UK.

Its a shame we don't see more of him, but looking forward to the new X-Men which he will no doubt be excellent in as well. A very consistent and great actor.
