Movies: Talk About What You've Seen Lately--Part 3 Movies: Talk About What You've Seen Lately--Part 3

Thanks for the responses to ATRL, amazing what missing several scenes can do.

Watching movies on Acid is a waste of a trip, unless you watch them in the beginning before it kicks in or towards the end when you are coming down. Having a movie on in a room where you can periodically walk in is OK.

Freaked is a good movie to watch for moments, it will blow your mind and make you get up and walk out.LOL. Slacker is a good one too just because the beginning talking about realities. I haven't seen more than 10 minutes of either movie total.

Aladdin is funny and my friends liked Johnny Mnemonic on acid.

12 Monkeys is 1995, but close enough.

I re-watched A Thin Red Line recently aswell, first time was years ago so it felt new. It's always annoyed me how Clooney's name is on the posters and covers yet he gets less than a minute of on screen time in a 3hr movie.

I've watched exactly 2 movies on acid - Natural Born Killers, and Jacobs Ladder. Weird.

i watched the matrix on acid , definitely enhanced the experience .

Captain Philips eventhough i remembered the story pretty clearly and knew what was going to happen this movie was still pretty intense , Tom Hanks was good as were the actors who played the pirates , solid movie

Lucky Number Slevin

It worked for me. The intensity of the crime thriller was tamed by a great a great sense of humor. As far as the soundtrack, it was engaging, at times classical/serious, other times, light, smoothing... But then it started to take itself too seriously. Regardless, I enjoyed it, but it was set too be on its way to a top tier film...

7.6/10

Goodbye First Love

A decent French film about the enduring memories of a first love, especially when they come back into your life.

7/10

UHF

I remember loving it as a kid and quoting some of the lines all the time. On a rewatch the acting is bad and all the punch lines in the script are telegraphed horribly, but the skits and faux commercials are the best ever.

"Spatula City, Spatula City! "

6/10 overall, 8/10 the skits and whatnot.

Jungle 2 Jungle

Pretty bad. Was curious what JoBeth Williams looked like in 1997. Bad movie and not in a good way.

2/10

Short Term 12 - Now THIS is what deserves the Best Original Screenplay Oscar. All of the characters seem so natural and real-life and they effortlessly draw you into the story because they're so well-written. Very impressive writing. To sum up the plot, the main character, Grace, is a ward supervisor at a juvenile in-take facility for troubled teens, and the story revolves around her and her co-workers dealing with these kids. When a new young girl named Jayden (played by Kaitlyn Dever who is a recurring guest star on Justified) arrives, she starts triggering issues and memories for Grace from her own past. Sounds really depressing, but it truly isn't. My only really little quibble with this movie is that I thought the director relied on close-ups of the actors a bit too much. He didn't need to force a sense of intimacy on the audience that way - his awesome script does all that work for him.

All of the actors are really good. Main actress Brie Larsen plays Grace and is outstanding. I also really liked Kaitlyn Dever as Jayden (the shark story just ripped me up). Highly recommend.

If anyone else calls it "A Thin Red Line," I don't know what I will do.

I always assumed that Cavaziel's character was AWOL in the opening sequence. It has been a few years, though, and I could be wrong.

I kept looking for the red line. Didn't see it anywhere.

Just watched Filth which I'd heard good things about but hadn't got round to seeing. I'm going to give it an 8/10. McAvoy was super strong playing a 30 something douche which I didn't see him being good at and the rest of the cast was solid. Definitely deserved more attention than it got.

I wrote a review about it some months back (in like November). Yeah totally agree, I loved it. Very laugh out loud funny, but darkly comic so not everyones cup of tea. It didn't even get much attention in the UK, which was a shame considering how good it was, it was reviewed well and Trainspotting which is by the same author is one of the biggest UK hit films of all time.

Jesus Christ, why not watch the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre on acid too, and go for the full set.

Jacobs Ladder makes you feel like you are on Acid. Why would you watch it when actually on?

Comedies are easily the best thing to watch on acid. Sci-fis like The Matrix can be good too.

A few years back, there was a Louis Theroux episode on where this guy claimed he could channel some alien leader from another planet at will, and he would go in this trancelike state, contort his face and put on this weird voice while dribbling absolute nonsense. It was the hardest I have ever laughed at anything.

The Act of Killing is streaming on Netflix. I do not know what I just saw. In other news I have canceled plans to visit Indonesia.

Edit: No, really. What in the ****.

The Wolf Of Wall Street - I thought it was a really enjoyable, excellent film. I'm usually pretty nitty with movie length time, and I was concerned about how they would use the time, but it flew in. Di Caprio was superb in it.
