Movies: Talk About What You've Seen Lately--Part 3 Movies: Talk About What You've Seen Lately--Part 3

Miniseries first. It has all the setup. "33 minutes" is a little intense to start someone on.

I might be biased, but I started with the latter, and sort of preferred it that way. Thoughts?
Relevant info: I want to hook her quickly to get her to want to watch it. Concerned the miniseries might be a bit too slow to start and she'll get bored.

Cashback

You would think that a movie where the protagonist can at will freeze time and thus undress all the beautiful women, would be promising... nah. While it does has its moments, it fails to reach its potential. The hero's flashbacks can be intriguing, but it does not make up for the uninteresting characters. All and all, blend and colorful at once, but mainly dragging the viewer unnecessarily through a boring narrative.

If she can't get through the miniseries how do you expect her to get through season 2? I think mini series first as it's more representative of the series as a whole. Also doesnt it setup the whole baltar-cylon connection? Seems like thing might be a bit confusing if she doesn't see that.

but honestly, the prequels can be skipped; they're all pretty awful.
Agree 100%

Im a fan and the magic is gone... not sure it was ever really there except for novelty sake.

Though I do put THX 1138 in the same category as HER, and is about as close a movie I can think of as a campadre.

100% go with the miniseries. If she hates it consider getting a new one, imo.

More seriously though I'm not sure why you preferred it as I found the story very confusing until I learned that there was a miniseries because they continually reference it.

I watched that a few years ago and agree it wasn't all that, I can't remember much from it other than thinking it had potential but was a bit corny and disappointing overall.

idk, maybe I enjoyed all the mystery, or like figuring things out as they go along? Sort of getting thrown in to it and having to figure stuff out maybe added to my experience? Instead of linear storylines, I was figuring out the character's pasts at the same time they were evolving forward.

This is unrelated, but my experience with Fight Club is one of my favorite cinematic experiences ever, and it was completely by accident. Somehow I saw no previews of the movie, heard nothing about it (I was only 13), and all I knew was Brad Pitt takes his shirt off and fights and there was a bar of soap in the ads. Stupid summer movie, I figured.

Two years later, I was bored one summer day, flipping through the channels. I saw that "Fight Club" was already in progress on HBO or something. I sighed, but since I was so bored, I figured I'd watch this dumb fighting movie and kill some time.

I turn it on right at the scene where Pitt and Norton are sitting outside the bar and Pitt is like PUNCH ME BRO and then they fight. I sighed again at what a dumb movie I'd turned it on, but kept watching. Slowly it got weirder and weirder and, you know, was Fight Club.

As the final credits rolled, I remember blinking for what felt like the first time since I had sat down, and became aware of my surroundings again, thinking "what the **** just happened?" My face was literally numb - still the only time I've ever experienced this sensation - and I felt like my brain had exploded.

Expecting it to be one thing and turning it on at the exact moment that most reenforced that idea, and then having it slowly evolve into another thing entirely was such an amazing experience. No movie before or since has been able to engross me so completely like that where I literally left reality for a few hours. Maybe when I saw Avatar stoned out of my mind, but even that was really different.

Memories of Murder (2003)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0353969/?ref_=nv_sr_1

I haven't watched much films at all in the past year or so, but I wanted to watch 1 the other night as I can't sleep so I had a look on the old hard drive to see if there was any thing I had downloaded but hadn't watched and found this korean thriller. I think it was based on a true story about a serial killer who was meticulous in his planning as he killed females and the story centred on the brutally corrupt detectives who were trying to find him. It was dark and twisted at points, but not as gruesome as some korean films i've seen. Overall it was good, definitely worth a watch.

7.5/10

I had a similar experience with 12 Monkeys. After smoking a few, I ended up at a friend of a friend's place, and he gave me acid. Thing is, the guy is not the most trustworthy, so I didn't think too much of it when I popped the pill and didn't expect too much from the movie that he had just rented, thinking it would be cheesey... What proceeded was my best cinematic experience, as the pill kicked in as the movie started... Not knowing anything from the movie, I was drawn in like never before.

I have since watched 12 Monkeys about 10 times and have loved it every single time, as well as its precursor La Jetee.

re BSG: start with the miniseries AINEC

Ice Age: Continental Drift - This makes the worst of Pixar look like Citizen Kane. No depth, not funny, it solely exists to keep kids staring at the screen for 80-sum minutes. And for a bunch of celebrities to cash big checks. The animation does look awesome, but that's about it. 2/10

A Thin Red Line - Great movie, I liked it a lot better than when I watched it when I was around 25, bc I was thinking Platoon or FMJ. Really great movie. Only downside was it was 3 hours and my newborn baby wouldn't let me watch it without interuptions.

A question - Does the movie start after the company takes the hill and Caviezel is in the village? Then he gets picked up and is re deployed with Penn and Co and then the final act? I was cleaning bottles and didn't want to rewind anymore.

Strawberry Shortcake: The Sweet Dreams Movie - Trash, but mostly harmless. 2/10

Hmm, I am *reasonably* confident it is chronological and never thought otherwise. I guess I'd have to check to make sure. I've seen it a number of times and it never crossed my mind that it didn't. That said, given you brought it up I really am not certain.

Anybody see Ride Along? I'm positive it'll be, at best, tepidly amusing, but I still want to see it because Kevin Hart is fantastic in comedic roles.

It's chronological.

I really want to see it, but can't bring myself to do it. It'll be an easy Netflix/DVD though. If I hear some great things about it, I might change my mind though.

Best movies to watch on acid...

Jacobs Ladder
NBK
Wizard of Oz with DSOTM

Videodrone wasn't bad either.

Acid? Is it 1992 again?
