It reminds me very much, in terms of both style and color palette, of
Kurosawa 70s and 80s work before Ran. Say, Kagemusha.

I'll be interested on your thoughts on it.

Saw End of Watch the other night. Thought it was quite good. If you like a decent, gritty cop flick, you should like this one.

I absolutely loved this movie, however, I don't think I'll ever enjoy it as much as I did the first time seeing it. I definitely plan on seeing it at least one more time in the theater just to make sure I'm not crazy.

There aren't enough adjectives to describe what I felt during this movie. It was essentially movie crack at its finest. I went in expecting one thing and was completely blown away. Don't want to talk to much about it just yet since it just got a wider release. Cant wait to hear what others think. I've never quite seen a movie like this and I loved it.

Gave Sonatine a try.

I didn't enjoy it. I felt more character development was needed instead of having blank, silent stares into the camera. I ended up reading about how they did that to express how most of the people in the movie had lost their "soul" or any shred of humanity due to their lifestyles, which somehow reminded me of alot of poker players, just that empty soul less look. They were basically empty shells waiting to die, and in hind sight it makes perfect sense and i thought it was cool how they tried to express it the way they did... but i think they could have come up with a better way to show the lack of humanity/compassion that would have been more enjoyable to the casual audience. idk.

I also didn't get any of the humor, i actually thought it was sickening when the girl asked when the first time he killed and why and he replied "I killed my dad when i was still in highschool... he wouldn't let me ****. hahahahah" That is ****ed up and not funny at all imo.

also, "I don't do drugs. I only do amphetamines" lolwut? didn't think that was funny either.

I loved the sumo scene and of course the ending was good imo.

i liked Spring Breakers but didnt get into it enough i feel. Or i maybe i try too much to love it because its harmony korine... Dunno! I was really tired at the theather so maybe there is that. 3 stars max for me.

Also saw Silver Linings Playbook, i enjoyed it until the "parlay bet" part which ruined the whole movie for me. Jennifer Lawrence is hot.

I am interested in how you follow up Trash Humpers with a theatrical release. I want to check it out for this reason alone. That and I "enjoy" Korine's work; I can't think of a better word right now.

Stoker is the first great film of 2013. Incredible stuff! Mia Wasikowska and Matthew Goode are incredible. The camera work is the best I've seen so far this year, even better than Soderbergh! =O I was shocked when my friend told me Wentworth Miller of Prison Break fame penned the script, his only writing credit. Park Chan-wook nailed it!! Highly recommend it, it's a crazy thriller!

The assassination of Richard Nixon

I was really excited to finally get a chance to see this movie, then five minutes in I realized id seen it before. That kind of summarizes my reaction to it. The performances are all very good but its telling a story that lacks tension because although it might be honest its also grimly predictable.

Unlike Travis Bickle Sam Bicke's an earnest, humourless, sad, pitiable man devoid of charisma. Unlike Taxi Driver the story here's only ever going to end one way and while both films end with shoot outs TAORN's is a nasty messy massacrer with no hero. We don't even see the other shooter.

I don't want to sound Like I'm criticizing it for not being Taxi Driver but the two are so thematically close I think it fair to compare them. While Sean Penn is excellent as a man spiralling silently out of control. I did completely forget having seen it before, I don't think I could ever forget Travis Bickle.

I saw this, Skyfall, and Argo recently. I thought Killing Them Softly was the best of that bunch, but mainly because I was disappointed in the other two. Killing them softly get an exta +1 out of ten just because

Spoiler:
We got to see Ray Liotta get the crap kicked out of him

That's a great description. You could also call it Terrance Malick on crack. I really enjoyed this movie too. It looked like everyone had a great time making this it and I'm not just saying that because of the non-stop partying montage. This was a movie made by someone who clearly loves making movies. I thought it was really hilarious and captivating -- the way they made this spring break, hedonistic adventure a "spiritual journey" for these girls.

I need a shower. GROSS.

I kind of wish I had never seen it.

The abundance of montage's really made this movie special. If you look at this movie's bare bones: Plot Development, Actors, Script... you really don't have much. You basically have a boring story about Spring Break, with some not so talented actors (save for James Franco) and a pretty much non-existent script. But the way this movie is edited, the constant misrepresentation of plot position from the voice-overs/flashbacks(forwards) is what really makes this a great movie.

Nothing against Selena Gomez or Vanessa Hudgens or the other two girls in this movie. I'm sure they're ok actors but this movie was not driven by their acting abilities. They were controversial casting choices and they look good in bikinis, kudos to the casting director/ It was the hyper-realism of every aspect of this movie that made it what it was. James Franco was amazing when he was needed (Gun blowjob scene anyone?) but as I said before it was the production of this movie that made it a truly great one.

Spoiler:
Did anyone notice when Vanessa Hudgens and Hot Blonde made those phone calls home to their family saying they wanted to be better people, this was after they had gone on their killing spree? I thought this was an awesome addition to the movie and something I didn't notice until after when a friend pointed it out. The way its setup in the movie, they want to be better people supposedly and then go on this massive killing spree. But in reality, they were making those phone calls after their deeds were done.

Southern Comfort

Another Walter Hill tale of a small group of men battling through enemy territory.

Maybe I'm suffering early onset alzheimer's because I vaguely remember seeing this one before to.
It's pretty good. It's got a completely different tone to The Warriors more of a horror film then an action adventure. Again its got an excellent score and really good pacing.
There was one scene that really bugged me though. The toppling of the trees just went too far I couldn't suspend disbelief at that point. But then it had a really nice build up to the showdown with the two groups circling each other intercut with the slaughtering of the pigs.
I had no intention of seeing Bullet to the head but I think I will now.

Feh. Avoid at all costs.
My belief about Tina Fey & movies is that she can only be good in parts that she writes, where she's a supporting player.
