I can confirm " A Little Pond" was an excellent film. A compelling South Korean movie based on a true story, it depicts the darker side of the US military during the Korean War.

Many of South Korea's finest actors donated their service to the film. For being low budget I give the film 4/4 stars.

Its on Netflix

Wow.

#14 is lazy. I mean, when is that note NOT applicable?

Shows how much a good sound mix and music helps.

The first showing to execs of Star Wars was a disaster because there were no sound effects or music.

Watched Gattaca the other day. It's a 90s movie but it is very well done and has an interesting emotional punch to it. Watched it when I was a teen and liked it. One of those rare ones that I like on a second viewing over a decade later.

I'm kind of surprised that people talked smack about plot inconsistencies. The guy in the wheel chair never had surgery to walk again. I don't think that it is a real issue with the story. Just because they can engineer a "good" body doesn't mean they can "fix" a broken body.

Anyways, I didn't really care for the Uma Thurman character (can't think of anything I liked her in?), but at least she wasn't too involved.

Trailerbrowsing Youtube and I met Valhalla Rising again. Turned out to be the whole film in Hd....had to rewatch.
Loved it even more.
Can't even say if Aguirre, wrath of god is the better movie.
When I first watched it I watched Van Diemen's Land the same day. They have some similarities as well but Van Diemen's land can't reach Valhalla. Still worth watching maybe.

I loved Valhalla Rising, but it can't touch the ass hairs of Aguirre The Wrath of God.

What I liked about Valhalla rising is that you can almost feel the strangeness of finding themselves in this completely lost situation where you do not even know for sure whether you are alive or not.
A situation impossible to experience in todays world. Even when your lost you kinda know where you are. Yet taken as a metaphor for the awkwardness of us being alive here on a strange little planet without knowing why we are here etc. these feelings perfectly translate.
ok i am kinda lost in translation here but i hope you can feel what i mean. ;-)
Anyways the movie goes pretty deep in a lot of aspects..(guilt,redemption,mythology,history, blabla) and is quite a little bit closer as touching an ass hair to aguirre imho
Imagine Valhalla being filmed in 1972.... Would be a total classic just like Aguirre is today :-)

That said i think its far from perfect and lacking in some areas.
still solid 8/10

Not a fan of Ben Affleck? Rachel McAdams give him a healthy knock in the balls at 1:23.

Haha.Very good.I never really liked Ben Affleck at all. He just has no real acting capability and his mimic is absolutely one dimensional.Pretty good decision to hide his face behind a beard in Argo.
I do not get why malick chose him.
Just imagine Ben Affleck playing a role like joaquin phoenix in the master and you will know what i mean

Yeah, but Olga Kurykenko is just about the most beautiful woman on the planet. And I'll watch two hours of Malick visuals with her in it, no problem.

Want to watch a 10! The Intouchables!

Malick movie sure looks like he's starting to be like Vivaldi: he didn't write 500 concertos, he wrote the same concerto 500 times. And I'm a fan, but it sure seems like we've seen this movie before. A few times.

Don't miss The Place Beyond the Pines. See it with your father or your son, or, if you're lucky enough, with both. Ryan Gosling reincarnating Marlon Brando, Emory Cohen reincarnating Marlon Brando, and a disappointing Bradley Cooper trying too hard, but a terrific movie of epic proportions.

Watched Flight yesterday and that movie was decent. I don't like movies where a lot of things are foreseen, but on a good note Kelly Reilly is so fruckling hot.

I don't know how anyone with this much promise could essentially just fade away as a director.

Peter Greenaway comes to mind, but that's really more by choice, it appears. He does such inaccessible projects it definitely looks like he could care less how many people appreciate his work.

Roeg looked like he was trying, but just never got the right project to stay in the picture, so to speak.

You can only be talking about The Thin Red Line and The Tree of Life, because there's no way that Badlands and Days of Heaven are really similar to this mode he seems to be in.

And I mention The Thin Red Line, but do not really place it with The Tree of Life and this new one. To me, there is a chasm of difference between the mentality of these films.

So I would not agree that he is making the same movie over and over again, unless it becomes clear that To The Wonder is cut from the same cloth as The Tree of Life (which appears to be the case).

Note I do not mention The New World. This is because I find it neither here nor there, and do not care to discuss. it. GOOD DAY.

Rushmore,

I have The New World sitting next to me and have been meaning to watch it for years. Should today be the day?
03-16-2013 , 10:46 AM
The New World is underrated IMO. Dare I say, I like it more than TTRL!
03-16-2013 , 11:10 AM
I thought for sure Rushmore would respond, but he really was committed to not saying another word on the film.

Clovis,

Thanks! Maybe today will be the day...

GOOD DAY.

(j/k...I hve no idea how any human being could prefer The New World to The Thin Red Line, but there you have it. I would rather watch Before Midnight or After Sunset or Right Around Brunch than to watch The New World again.)

It's not a good rhetorical device to mock a series of films that contain more about the human condition in 5 minutes running time than Malick's entire oeuvre while trying to defend the latter.
